Star Wars Ep 3 :?: :?: :?: :?:
Utter garbage. I can't believe Lucas made this. Five minutes into it I knew it was crap.
Why did they allow this script? The acting was horrible. The actors by themselves are good in other movies but in this one, wow, I can't even know where to begin.
Thank god I didn't pay for this.

The thing that makes it really bad: the dialog - and Lucas hired(or had been foisted upon by) Speilberg's dialog coach for this outing - and this was the best of the three.
Im thinking Vader's last line wasn't in the script, but simply James Earl Jones reacting the to the tripe he was presented with.
The prequels are best described as Lucas's fan film to himself - he just made gazillions on the side.

I almost feel ashamed to say that I came out of the theater feeling like it had gone better than I had expected. After a few days, that feeling began to quickly wear off, and I began to see it as the steaming pile of crap it was. I'll give it the credit of being at least a little better than the previous two, but that's not saying anything at all. Whatever Lucas was on should be declared a crime against humanity.

As i'm sure you know, ep2 and ep3 were made at the same time and the Warshawsky bros. had lost the edge by then.Lothar wrote:Matrix 3 was crap. SW Ep 3 was just cr.
ep2 also was full of crap but the chase scene made up for it.
Lucas lost his edge during the (what was it, a 15 year gap?) time between episodes.
I think,,
1. too many people get in on things because the franchise is popular and will make money.
2. too many people allowed to influence critical decisions because they are investing money.
3. the directors believe their p.r. and they think anything they do will be ok.
4. too many ***kissers around "the big man"
if enough people tell you you look great in any kind of clothes, pretty soon you're walking around naked with your **** hanging out.

Haha, watch the flies swarm around the pile of ★■◆●...
You know, after it came out in theaters, everyone on this board seemed to love the movie and ignore the bad acting. Now that it hits DVD, they decide to all join hands and hate it. At least a few of us, ignore the ★■◆● and pay attention to the good points.

In general, I liked all 3.
However I do have some gripes.
1)Poor Acting (I'm sorry, but darth vaders "nooooooo" at the end wasn't convincing, among other things) which is probably a result of..
2)Rushed! The first 3 movies didn't rush the storyline. And if you're gonna make a movie, why are you trying to fit it in a certain time length. I expect movies to be longer than a TV episode. This is why LOTR were such good movies, yes they were butt-is-getting-sore long, but they were really good. Its as if they thought, everyone knows how this turns out already, so lets just put it in film as if to summarize it.
And the big one:
3)Plot Inconsistancies - I'm sorry, but in the first movie, Obi-Wan said Yoda trained him, but in Episode 1, theres this Quigon character, and everyone is going WTF! And that wasn't the only example either. Don't these people watch their own movies?
my $0.02

I agree with Vertigo on this one. Watching these movies like a critic, you might as well be pissing your money down the drain.

2. It wasn't rushed to me, his turn had been in the making for while, it was just the fear of the loss of Padme that finally pushed him in that direction to go to the Dark Side.
3. Yoda does train Obi-wan once they go into exile. Qui-Gon does as well through force spirit if I remember correctly.
The one thing I can't stand above anything else are the quotes from the New York Times and other sources that they use during the commercials. "Better than the original Star Wars"? "The most emotionally powerful of the six"? Were they watching the same movie I was? I've heard so many people say that the acting in the original movies wasn't that great, or that it's only nostalgia that makes people like them more, but I'm calling bull on that. I wasn't even born when the original trilogy was released in theaters, and I first saw it around the age of 8 or so. I liked it for what it was, not for any fond memories that it invoked in me. Looking at it now, I feel the same way. Mark Hamill may be maligned by some, but he really brought his character a long way, from a whiney farm-boy to a mature and self-assure hero. Of course, Harrison Ford was at his best as Solo, a type of character that this new trilogy sorely needed. No matter what standards you use, I can't see how anyone can compare the dialogue/acting between the two trilogies. Things like "He's holding me back!!1!1" and "NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" are forever scarred onto my brain as examples of Lucas's idiocity.

They're right that the acting wasn't that great. Seriously, get the originals and watch. The acting is pretty sad.
But, they're wrong that it's nostalgia that makes people like them. What makes people like them is that the movies don't take themselves too seriously. They're all about chemistry between actors, crazy light-saber-fu, and kicking alien butt. They're meant to be cheesy, but in a more subtle way than Galaxy Quest. For a perfect example, watch the final Jaba the Hut scene... it's all chemistry, lightsabers, alien butt kickage, and cheese.
What makes episodes 1, 2, and 3 crap, crap, and cr is that the acting is the same quality as the originals but there's no chemistry between the actors and everything is meant to be serious. Instead of 20 minutes of ewoks beating the hell out of stormtroopers, we get 20 minutes of dialogue about teen angst, romance, and the philosophy of the dark side. Nobody wants to see that crap.
that's not a big one in my opinion. yoda apparently trained every jedi to some extent. it's only leading up to the trial that their personal jedi mentor becomes the "head trainer", so to speak.Capm wrote:in the first movie, Obi-Wan said Yoda trained him, but in Episode 1, theres this Quigon character, and everyone is going WTF!
first lemme say i loved the third movie. accept for stupid kiddy stuff in Ep 1, i love the prequel trilogies. I'll bet the haters would have liked the prequels if they were still little kids as they were when the originals came out.
but inconsistency...the biggest i've seen is that Leah supposedly has memories of Padme whereas Luke does not.
I'm sensing a great disturbance in the plot...as if millions of viewers cried out and were suddenly silenced.

I liked all the Star Wars movies to some extent. It's supposed to be fantasy anyway which it definitely is. All of the jedi fight scenes rock! and the overall story is good. Don't really care that the dialogue is not so great.
The only thing I hated about the movies was how each one became a bigger puppet show than the one before it all the way through the fourth movie (ep 1)!!! I remember when I was a kid how everyone couldn't get enough of the cantina and all the creatures and Lucas lost his mind trying to exploit that aspect. The Ewoks sucked balls and Jar-Jar made me want to go on a killing spree with an axe. Ep 2 and 3 were much less puppet shows.
You're right, as usual. I guess that's what I was trying to get across. There's just an atmosphere to the original trilogy that draws you in and takes you along for the ride. You're able to completely suspend disbelief, and you find yourself truly caring about what happens to the characters. None of that was present in the new films; they didn't feel like they had any depth.Lothar wrote:They're right and wrong.Top Gun wrote:I've heard so many people say that the acting in the original movies wasn't that great, or that it's only nostalgia that makes people like them more...

Palzon, I think the memories that Leia was talking about were probably of her adopted mother; the dialogue would make a lot more sense if that's who she was talking about.
P.S. I can also never understand the hating on Ewoks. Cute furry guys who chuck rocks and take out stormtrooper grunts? What's not to like?

Honestly, I loved the original trilogy. It was so cheezy, it made you feel all campy inside. How could you not laugh at the stormtrooper that banged his head on the blast door in Ep4 while they were still on the Death Star in the hangar bay? There was a reference to this in Ep2 when Jango bangs his helmet on the door to Slave 1. However, I wanted to strangle Lucas for creating Jar-Jar, and Battledroid 3PO. WTF was on his mind when he came up with that crap?
As for the acting, I could understand Hayden's acting because he was supposed to be a whiney brat. Thats what Luke was in EP4.

No, sir. ROTJ - Luke asks Leia about their common mother. She responds something like: she was beautiful but somewhat sad.Top Gun wrote:Palzon, I think the memories that Leia was talking about were probably of her adopted mother; the dialogue would make a lot more sense if that's who she was talking about.
I'm guessing you are under 30 yo? The younger you were at the time, the less it will bother you.Top Gun wrote:P.S. I can also never understand the hating on Ewoks. Cute furry guys who chuck rocks and take out stormtrooper grunts? What's not to like?

Luke, says that he has no memory if his mother. Common geek knowledge. Look it up in the official geek thesaurus b!@+ch!!
Ep3 had alot of shortcomings, but I still enjoyed it. Much of what was wrong with it was fundamental, like lack of chemistry between the actors amongst other glaring things. Dialogue is not really an issue, have you paid any attention to the dialogue in the trilogy? Did the phrase "but I wanted to go to Taschi station to pick up some power converterz!!11!!1!!LOLOMGBBQ" make you cringe?

Wow, I can't believe some of the opinions here. I really liked this movie. Perhaps nostalgia has something to do with it sure but, I really thought this movie kicked a$$.
When Obi Wan was screaming at Anakin "You were supposed to save us!!" at the edge of the lake of fire after just pwning him hard core, I dont know bout you I was moved.
I mean that really ties it back in to the original star wars, how Darth just hated Obi Wan. Well duh, I can surely see why now.
The mental fight Anakin was having about turning to the dark side when he saved the emperor was intense, no?
Here I am alone in believing this movie was awesome?
I'm thinking theres at least an 18 year gap of Luke and Vaders life they could make another movie about.
I would be in the front row, just like I was for this movie, and deeply satisfied when I left the theater I'm sure.

Youre not alone. Yea the movie had bad parts as I already stated but I forgot to mention it was pretty damn close to be amongst the greatest with the trilogy. Anyone know the status of the TV show? I heard they had 100 episodes planned. Did we discuss that here already?woodi wrote:I'm thinking theres at least an 18 year gap of Luke and Vaders life they could make another movie about.

Lucas' interstitial stories to bow on TV in 2007.
by Todd Gilchrist
October 7, 2005 - During the recent press day for the release of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, producer Rick McCallum and Lucasfilm Sr. Vice President Jim Ward revealed a few new details about the upcoming live-action television series that will serve as a braidge between the first and second series of Star Wars trilogies.
The live-action television series is something we're planning for just at the beginning of 2007," McCallum said during a panel interview with Ward. "We're just starting to interview writers and trying to really figure out which direction [it will go]. It is going to be much darker, much grittier, and it's much more character based."
McCallum said that series creator George Lucas has elaborate plans for the interstitial material, which will link old characters with new ones. "He envisions somewhere like 100 hours between Episode III and Episode IV with a lot of characters that we haven't met but have been developed in other novels and other things," McCallum said. "So we're really excited about that because I think finally we can have the opportunity to answer everybody's questions once and for all by the time we finish the series."
McCallum also said that the series will have a default home base in Sydney for the series' for production, but will also use a variety of international locations to create the new small-screen Star Wars backdrop. "Principal photography will take place all around the world, probably with a base in Sydney." He added that the series will likely be shot in high-definition video: "we will be shooting in hi-def," he said, "or, if anything else evolves within the next 12 months, you know, that would replace hi-def. I don't see that happening, but there may be new and more, or less expensive cameras with more optical imagery or optical discs that we record on. But basically it will be hi-def, yes."
Jim Ward added that the new series offers Lucasarts the opportunity to expand the gaming universe of the Star Wars series. "We're also excited at Lucasarts about that opportunity as well," Ward said. "It's a whole environment for us to go and make some great games."
