grand theft auto: boise, idaho
grand theft auto: boise, idaho
ok this is my opinion: it might be time to stop with the gta games. i am becoming very much desensitized to the violence. more than that though, i can't seemed to be shocked anymore. car jacking someone 5 years ago: funny as all hell, car jacking and murdering 10 'niggaz' in san andreas, blowing away 15 cops and then stealing a jet and razing a city: meh.
i watched land of the dead again the other day. i was amazed at the fact that a zombie was tearing out entrails, exposing viscer and pulling spines out and i just watched like it meant nothing.
so my question: what is next? what will it take to shock me now?
note: this is not meant to be to start a 'did video games make some kid shoot up a school?' debate. any normal person knows what not to do in this real, tangible world we live in. i am just stting the fact that it seems that i am no longer affected by these things.
up shot? no blood in descent. i can let my 5 year old play that right?
(my apologies for incorrect spelling and grammer, apparently that is quite an issue for some people here...)

if the ultra gore violence means nothing to you now, do you now get nothing outof watching land of the dead?
i've never really been a fan of gore myself, when i was a kid i liked special effects, i didn't like blood, but the 2 always seemed to come together in so many action movies.
i grew outof action movies. it does nothing for me. if something is ultra violent and gorey now, i demand it be non-fiction. coz we can all learn from history's mistakes, but you don't learn jack ★■◆● from zombies juggling chainsaws.

fyrephlie's post is just more proof that different things affect different people differently.....
but wait! maybe were supposed to all just be the same and dam the individuality....

SP, no problem (except the intro movie.) In MP you should monitor him and announce that there's a 5yr old in game so ppl will lay off playing offensive taunts.fyrephlie wrote:up shot? no blood in descent. i can let my 5 year old play that right?

He is still human though right? Violent games like GTA shouldn't cause anyone to be shocked in the first place, if he was shocked by what he sees in a video game or a movie then he is probably too sensetive to start with. A real shock is something that sticks with you for a while, like if your brother gets hit by a semi on the freeway, or your garage burns down and almost takes your house with it. Anything in a video game or movie is pointlessly trivial by comparison.will_kill wrote:Krom wrote:Video games do nothing to desensitize me, the real world does much much more. Don't even bother, just disable taunts. I had taunts enabled for a short while in demo2, the language was stupid and the feature was abused so I have had taunts disabled ever since. I often wonder how people who play taunts can stand listening to "yeah whos your daddy mother #$*#er!" so many times over and over again like a broken record.Grendel wrote:SP, no problem (except the intro movie.) Oh, wait, now I get it. Let's just eliminate all the people with brain disorders, that way we can play all the stupid games we want, and then we won't even have to worry about some 'nut-job' flying off the handle because of some "stupid game". Why? 'Cause we'll have KILLED them..yay!

You might consider turning them back on once, just to see, especially if it's been years since you had them on.Krom wrote:Don't even bother, just disable taunts. The majority of the players I've been playing with over the past few months have clean audio clips, and only use them for certain events (CTF flag scores, etc.). There's only been a couple of times in the last couple of weeks that I can remember an idiot blaring his crass taunt over and over - and they got kicked pretty quickly.
Me, I just use a couple of quotes from The Princess Bride... of course!
no, im in minneapolis. but i went there this summer to pick strawberries with my niece...Dedman wrote:Hey Cope, I have a sister that lives in Marine on St. Croix. We go up to visit her about once a year. You anywere near there?

well, if we eliminate ppl with brain disorders from the legal system then it'd be a good start.will_kill wrote:Well pardon me, Judge DreddKrom wrote:He is still human though right? What annoys me about the bad things in GTA is that it seems like they were trying too hard to target a specific audience that would actually think that stuff is "cool". Like maybe if we say ★■◆● 20 times in a conversation more people will buy our game!! it seems like this is one of the main points of the game and without the cursing and the strip clubs the game doesn't have much to it at all.

Good point Phantasma. I agree on those points but GTA does have "some" good points about. I like the fact that you have to build your guy up, buy him clothes and you can virtually drive any car you see fit. However, it really could do without shooting so much for that particular audience and aim at a much broader audience. Most of Rockstar's games seem to target this audience though which is annoying. They certainly could live with out the F word multiple times in every sentence if you can call it a sentence. :\
