I feel the need... the Need for SPEED!

Post by Capm »

I wasn't real impressed with the demo of NFS:Most Wanted until I discovered the pursuit challenge (3rd of 3) - Now THIS is what NFS is all about! Hell Yes.

Now, I do have a couple gripes, the car does nothing but spin its tires at low speeds, which leaves you a sitting duck for the bazillion cops who are on your ass.

My other gripe isn't so much a gripe, but I'm still on the fence about the event cam - it kicks in whenever you go airborne - altho I don't think it does it in multiplayer, so that may be okay.

Anyway, This morning I went out and bought the full game (among other things) when the wife dragged me out of bed this morning at too friggin earlya.m. to get to Walmart. So we'll see how the full game stacks up to my expectations from the demo.

All I can say is, its been a long time since the NFS series has actually gotten me excited. Of course, I could say the same for just about any game, the last one being Half-Life2, and before that, Descent 3.

I'm sure the event CAM can be disabled like it was in NFS HP2

In the full version for the PS2, at least, I know you can disable the event camera. I'd be moonstruck if the other versions didn't let you do that. :)

I was critical of Most Wanted at first (most notably its inconsistent physics and obtuse UI), but the more I play it, the more I like it. Although I wish the intensity of the cops in free roaming mode built up more dramatically (like, say, in GTA: Vice City), once the real chase is on, it's an immensely exciting game.

Now all they needed was the World's Scariest Retired Sheriff doing the voiceover.

The only NFS game I've ever seen played was Underground 2, and that looked like nothing more than a glorified ricer fest. Am I right in assuming that this game is better than that?

TG, NFS MW is NFS U2 all over. Since NFS U this is all it's been. I wish they'd go back to their roots but I doubt it

Last NSF game I bought was NSF 3: HP. It was good. It was all about the CLK GTR.

oh man i hate that guy!!! ever notice how many times he tries to add to the drama by calling 'near misses'... like one where he talks about a mother and a baby carriage... i had to back up the dvr and freeze frame to find them... down and to the left behind another building walking in the opposite direction... but man it was a near miss!!! i wish there was a S.A.P. with just the action and not him (but i think that about sports commentators too)

game looks cool.

Yes... roots! I was a devout fan. I played NFS 1, have NFS 2 S.E., have NFS 3: HP, have NFS 4: HS, and NFS Porche Unleashed. Beat all of em. Then they want to th rice rocket crap which pissed me off. Then I saw HP2, bought it, and it SUCKED. So now I am done until they get the old exotics back. And think about how good it would be with the Merc SLR, the Veyron, the Enzo, the Carrera GT.... it would be so great!

I would concur that I don't like the angsty "tuner" aspect of the game at all. I don't know the slightest thing about geeky tuner culture and I don't care. I hate how you have to make butt-ugly cars in order for them to perform well. Whatever happened to driving slick, high-performance sports cars?

those angsty kids realized that that they could afford those tuner cars while working as a driver for dominoes....

Cheap cars with expensive tune ups that cost more than the car itself. I laugh everytime I see one.

they don't buy the 'tune ups' just the cars, thats why they play nfs now, cause they dream about stuff they think they could do to their 92 civix si... then they blow a lot of money on things like knock off sparco seats and making their own clear corners and sh|t of the like. "man check out the wing my buddy and i put on, we made it out of my dad's plywood desk and some kilz!!"

When I saw the Stang in there.... I was going... Oooooh, now this I like. BTW, there is a Porche in there from what I saw, so there are a few exotics. But then I saw the riced up version. I also noticed the annoying bullet-time button.... this game just gets dumber and dumber. :

Another thing that annoys me, I used to like the NFS soundtracks in 3 and 4. Now their using ricer music with half the lyrics bleeped out which simply makes it sound stupid.

I don't know if this is true, but I've realzied the things that these kids do to their cars usually slow them down. They waste all this money on useless, heavy touches (like spoilers and body kits) that do nothing except make the car "flashy." How could you spend money to slow down your car? Are you stupid? fu*kin A! What happened to the classyness of a sleeper...

Definately a good call. All that crazy techno music was so awesome.

It rips me up inside to see what has happened to the once great NFS.

I think what it comes down to is the "old school" Need for Speed games (Hot Pursuit, High Stakes, Porsche Unleashed) had a certain amount of "class" to them. Now, like so many franchises, it's become grungy and dark.

But even if the last few NFS games turned you off, you still owe it to yourself to try the demo of Most Wanted. Despite the grungy overtones, it's actually a pretty solid and fun racing game.

I don't have that problem with their website - and the game is rock solid for me, never crashes, and alt-tabbing out doesn't effect it at all.

As for it being a ricer fest, I don't know - its got some goodies in there, mustang, porsche 911, a lambo, corvette, viper.. so its not all ricer. Its actually lots of fun.

Altho I dont' like the music, so I turn it off, and the acting is *really* cheezy.. but thats alright

The acting is cheesy to the point where you sorta' wonder if they intended it to be that way. It's very similar to the hammy cutscenes in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2. They look interesting, though. The mix of CGI backgrounds and curiously artificial-looking actors reminds me of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

Its filter they use on the cgi, makes you wonder was their video shots of such crappy quality that they had to use a "make it look cool effect" on it?
