Post by Junebug_returned »

you can vote in the poll above and post how long exactly (about) you think it will continue to stay alive and strong. Comments anyone?

It will stay strong in cohesion even after future 6DOF titles, such as Core Decision, come out. Thus, I don't think it will really ever die.

There will always be Descent Players here's a picture that is 7 years old, My son Michael sitting on a 3DPro looking at the screen check out his hand ;) (still using it to this day on old win98 machine)...
Image
I'll see if I can get one and upload it tomorrow he is playing now and I mean HOOKED and HOOKED hard, so I say the young guys here that are young men now will expose thier children to the Greatest Game released in our life time!

Diedel's upgrading of the best version ever D2 will assure that there will ALWAYS be a Descent Community and as long as myslef and one other person is playing Descent , D2 or D3 then ther ewill be a DBB!

oop's meant to give .02 cents and gave a dimes worth :D

i've never really been a member of the descent 3 community. i kinda consider myself a member of the Interestingly Intuitive Control Method (IICM) community, but i just made that name up.
Honestly i was more into Descent1 than i am into Descent3. I don't consider the Descent1 community to be dead - i just consider it to have moved onto descent2 and then descent3 and then it will move onto other 6DOF (or IICM) games.

so there ya go, i think a sense of "interesting intuitive control methods" community is more important than any descent3 community. Since we rarely talk about D3 thesedays, it's somewhat proof that the DBB isn't really held together by DESCENT, but rather it's held together by our common taste for that kindof gameplay and control method - of which Descent was only one (well, 3) such game.

In the spirit of the season.....ala Handel

FOREVER...AND EVER! HALLELUJAH.....HALLELUJAH!!!!!

sorry. got carried away...of course THIS particular Descent community will always stay around, even if few of us actually play the game anymore.

No time spent making two (or more) people better friends is ever wasted.

Depending what is referred to as 'live', but I would say less than 10 years for any reasonable activity. (The 40-year-old disenfranchised chatting on forums doesn't really count)

For your initiation they can be your keyboards yeah.
Otherwise they have to be other people's keyboards that you steal while wearing the ceremonial Helmet
(it's a black fully enclosed motorcycle helmet with "LOW FOV MADE ME DO IT!!!" painted visibly on it).

2 years, 234 days, 12 hours, 15 minutes, and 26 seconds from the time this is posted.

Or maybe that's how long until the end of my sanity. Either way-

no offense Koolbear, but my comments in this thread are not directed at anyone in particular. It's nice to see that you have an interest in the longevity of Descent. There is nothing else quite like it.

cheers!

And I did reply, it must be stuck in some queue. ...bait... ;)

My 6 year old, (That's him in the Avatar) is working his way through D3 single player. He's on level 2.

So, we can hope it will last a long, long time. :)
