Opinions Needed About Band Cover

Post by Kumba »

Ok so me and my band (which actually is just a guitarist and me the drummer) decided to do a cover of this song, and we're looking for input, so i've been posting it and letting everyone I know listen to it.

Let me know what you guys think. Oh and it was recorded on a 99 cent computer microphone :P L8rz

you should spend at least 2 bucks on a new mike.

i wont comment on the mix, as it seems you'd just do this so you could actually hear yourselves play. don't put it on a demo! :P

i've never heard this song before, but i will be critical enough to say the drum intro is a bit too much.

the other standy-out part is to me your voice, while fine to my ears, you just seem too far out there. you are intime as far as i know, but you dont arent with the band, i dont think i can explain it well enough. The "didu didoooo" part, you are just a tad off-key as well. as some other parts - but don't worry about that - keep practising! :) you're not alone. you should hear me...

other than that, there's not much too it, for something that is 5 minutes long...?
its snazzy. :)

keep on rockin bud!

Definately just to hear the playing. The singing is a bit better live, we are running the guitar and vocals through the same amp so the vocals were getting distorted some, especially on "higher" notes. Of course the singing is definately not great as this is the first time I've ever sang aloud besides in my car. The drumming matches the original song perfectly, so it's over the top because they made it that way :P Thanks for the criticism :)

i really enjoyed it :)

(i've never heard that song before, it sounds great)

i don't wanna suggest anything coz you may have been doing it on purpose, or it may just be from the recording, but i thought your friend was plucking the strings unnaturally hard. maybe it's what haag is talking about with your(?) voice not quite matching the music, it could be that the voice is such a sharp contrast to the harsh plucking and harsh drums.

(haha it still surprises me when i hear people's accents, you just assume everyone has a local accent on the internet ;))

Well despite being slightly off key on the "doo-doo-di-doo" parts (I noticed that and I've never heard the song), it was pretty damn good! :D Get a bassist and practice for a while, then cut a demo track or two. :)

Indeed, you're off key way too often to be good at singing. I suck at singing myself (sometimes I rape Beatles or Coldplay songs for hours behind my piano :D), but I have a very sensitive hearing for those things. Just keep practising, it can only get better ;)

Drums are definitely overdone, and not sophisticated enough for a song of this refinement. Also, I don't know if you realised, but your pace was quickening all through the song and the guitarist had to keep up :)

Bottom line: need a pianist? :)
