My new rig has 3 network connections listed:
local area connection 2 (nvidia nforce networking controller)
Local area connection (marvell yukon)
1394 connection
I have no idea what these three are. My last pc had no nic card on the mb, so I installed an intel nic card and only had one connection. can I delete 2 of these connections?
also, would it be better to install my old intel nic instead of using the onboard nic?
You only need to use the Local network Connection as this is gthe actual one you will be using. The 1394 is a firewire connection and the 1st one it seems is the Nvidia NIC controller. Just leave them all there. They won't harm anything.
Ok, really dumb question here: what is a firewire port, and would I use it for? (I assume its a different plug than the usb plugs?)
readyman too it seems
firewire is another connection, much like USB but much faster, also known as a 'DV' connection because it is used mostly for high speed video transfer....
