Certain websites take down my router..

I have a linksys WRT54G running the latest firmware, and certain sites just kill it. Knock me off line and require a power cycle, and on one occasion a hard reset before I could get the darn thing working again.

Stryker had mentioned he experienced a similar problem with a link I posted in the E & C forum.. I haven't really complained about this much up until now because it was primarily a torrentwebsite (TPB) that was causing this...

But now that I know I'm not alone...

HELP! Linksys, of course, has no assistance to offer.

You know I've had the same problem with the same router, if thats the wireless one with speedboost. Buy my problem stems from d/ling torrents for to long. Have to power cycle the modem and router.

Not sure what causes this.

Disable SPI or any \"Advanced Firewall\" features on the router.

I don't have the speedboost model, Merlin.

And it's only torrents from certain sites (sites that defray operating costs with advertising (like thepiratebay)) that cause the lock-ups.

When I went away for 10 days, I started some humongo torrents from a private tracker, and they NEVER went down or stopped. In fact, I came back with my ratio improved by a full 20GB on the positive side despite the massive downloads. However, torrents from TPB are hit or miss.

I've tried running 4 different BT clients (bt official, bittornado, utorrent & azureus), and using different ISP's (cable & DSL) and the behavior occurs regardless.

No. UPnP is a feature that allows programs that require port forwarding to automatically forward the ports they require through the router.

The \"Advanced Firewall\" is linksys always crappy implimentation of a SPI or Stateful Packet Inspection firewall, it can cause problems like making a router lock up.

There is no \"firewall\" per se in the WRT54G.

I have to powercycle mine every few days or so, or it'll lock up. If I leave it alone, the lockup will last for about ten minutes, then its back to normal.

NAT != Firewall, but works just as well.

BTW, 99 ports for bit torrent? I only use 10 and never have a problem.

Huh. I always thought that if you were \"opening\" a port or had a DMZ zone you were dealing with a firewall.

The mysteries abound!

(ps: I don't need 99 ports anymore. In fact, Azureus only needs 1, I'm gonna go fix that now)

Are you aware of the issues concerning the V5? It's got a vastly different archictecture than V1-V4, and it's supposed to be for the far worse. Plus IIRC Linksys halved the RAM too.
