ahaha. i remember a few years back when someone did this with MINERAL OIL. i wonder how it's thermal properties compare to cooking oil.

The aggressiveness of individual types of oil (above all those with a high fatty acid content) when it comes to plastics should not be taken lightly. For simplicity's sake, we decided on vegetable oil - but we recommend motor oil.

I'd suggest using transformer oil..

Edit: even better: 561 Silicone Transformer Liquid

Beats me -- took the photo at the PDX LAN last year. The dude had dragged it to PDXL so it can't be too bad :) And yes, there where fish living in it..
