Optimal keyboard+mouse configuration

Post by Nikolai »

Unfortunaly I don't have a joystick. Keyboard and mouse are my only controllers. Here is my configuration:

It has one big disadvantage: to slide left or right I have to hold down ALT key and move the mouse. If anyone faced with a similar problem, please give me an advice. Is there optimal keyboard configuration for the left hand, which allow to do the following actions comfortably?
Accelerate/Reverse
Slide Up/Down
Slide Left/Rigth
Bank Left/Right

I've read in one article that it's highly recommended to use 'Triple-chording' technique and then realized that I just unable to perform it.

I'm not a mouser, and I don't play a whole lot of d2, but basic movement requirements are pretty much the same for all 3 versions of the game.

I would suggest that you read this article for starters, it supplies many good suggestions.

I have been a mouse/kbd D3 player since 1999 and I have a joystick ... I just prefer not to use it for D3. I have found an excellent configuration over the years and I use this same config for just about every game I play. PM me an email address and I will send you my .plt file. You can then create a new pilot, copy controls from mine, and customize it however you want. I would be happy to hop into a 1v1 server with you and help you get started with it.

I've already read it a long ago, but still I re-read it once again. Good article, but it describes a joystic configuration. While I don't have a stick, I want to become a superior mouser :-)

Iceman, check out your PM.

Here is another configuration which is very similar to "Quake" and other "pedestrian" shooters. Strangely enough that it allows trichording in any direction!

W=Forward
S=Backward

A=Slide left
D=Slide right

Space=Slide up
LCtrl=Slide down

Q=Bank left
E=Bank right

Pitch and turn - mouse default axis setup
Fire weapons - mouse buttons
Cycle weapons - mouse wheel
