Monitor extension cables

Post by ReadyMan »

My monitor cable is about 8\" short.
I have an old gold svga exntension cable but when I use it the picture/visual on my 2nd monitor is fuzzy/hazy.
There's a note on the box of the extension cable that says the company offers high integrity monitor cables for 19\"+ sized monitors.

So I'm wondering if this old cable isnt able to handle the signal? Are cables designated for each size monitor?
Do I need a special cable for this 21\" CRT monitor (or do they even exist?

thanks!

You don't need a certain type of cable for diff size monitors, just for bigger monitors you need a higher quality cable.

When using an extension cable on a visual device you always buy the best cable you can get since you are already pushing it by using more cabling and more points of connection.

Yes, and monitor cables vary in quality quite a bit. You want the minimum length possible. Simply no way to rearrange your workspace to get that cable to fit?

Ever think about getting a KVM switch? You never know when one might come in handy.

what is a KVM switch?

Mobius: yeah, I pulled the monitor closer to me and angled it. I can see it better now, but I have almost no deskspace so I'm not sure if this is a solution or not. At least for now it works, and I'm getting very used to having the extra monitor :)

All of you were correct: having another monitor rocks!

It's a box that lets you control two (or more) computers from one keyboard/monitor/mouse. You push a button on it and it cycles from one computer to the next.
