Have a friend who has Norton Security and just installed Yahoo Mesanger which Norton won't allow on.

How can I help him fix that?

As much as I want to say delete \"Norton Internet Insecurity\". If you disable norton for 5 minutes then install yahoo messenger, then configure the Norton firewall to allow YIM through, you should be set.

I'll say it then,
absolutly delete that piece of crap program now !

AVG for free is so much better than Norton P.O.S.

Get it at Grisoft.com

free.grisoft.com actually.

And to answer the OP, you'll have to go into the options and turn on the "learning mode" if its not already on. Your friend may have blocked it by accident. You might want to double-check his rule list to make sure isn't blocked. (I don't have it installed, nor have I touched in in about two years since its a memory hogging POS. Otherwise I'd point you exactly where to go.)

umm... so, a good friend of yours says, "hey, i wanna see the bullet up close, come out the barrel of this gun, can you tell me the best angle to fire at so i can really see it come at me?"

do you,

a. tell him he's stupid from trying to shoot himself?

or

b. help him shoot himself?

p.s. i know that i type all in lowercase, mis-spell words, incorrectly hyphenate things, use poor grammar, and have no real reason to post this kind of 'immflammatory' response to your post. :D

If someone asks for help (especially for friends who may not exactly care whether somethings \"best\", only \"easy\"), just answer the question. Alternate suggestions may or may not be welcome, depending on the wants and needs of the friend, but simply taking the opportunity to make a stab at Norton is tantamount to spam. :P

(If you do have a good alternate, just list it as an aside. Who knows, they may have just done Norton because that's all they knew about, and would be up for anything better. :))

Thanks for the helpful post and as has been said it's not my place to tell him to delete something he paid good $ for. Although I did tell him not to renew so I could install ZA and AVG next time.
