I don't really understand what it's about. Is it taking place after the events of FF7?

Now that's a really impressive trailer. I remember the original anime Appleseed. It had rather stilted animation and a screwy smooth jazz soundtrack, but it was done before anime really took off. The plot was like Lethal Weapon, mixed with 1984 dystopia. The story took place in Olympus, a city built after the conclusion of World War III. In order to prevent another such war, Biodroids (synthetic half human, half androids) are in charge of overseeing the city. A group of human terrorists are hellbent on capturing a massive, spider-like war robot in order to take back control from Gaia, the omniscient central computer. The story follows two Olympus cops who fight to stop the terrorists, although one wonders if they really are as terrible as they seem. Adapted from a manga by Masamune Shirow (who did Ghost in the Shell), the new CG movie looks like it will tell a story different from the original 1980s anime.
I wasn't too impressed by the Advent Children trailer. Maybe I'm just very used to the deformed versions of Cloud and Sephiroth, or maybe the constant sword fighting in the trailer became boring. I don't know. I enjoyed Final Fantasy VII as a game, with its overarching "evil corporation playing with god" theme. But, it doesn't seem like there's much to base a movie on post-game.
