Temperature limit question

Would anyone know what the temperature limit be for a P4 mobile? (2.4ghz).

My co-worker has an Inspiron 8500, and it's running at 76Â° C and wants to know how bad that is.

Not sure about mobiles (your friend should search Intels website for specs for his particular CPU) but a regular P4 would be toast or close to it. A 2.8GHz/133 Northwood is speced to 75dC, a 2.8/200 NW to 69dC and a 2.8/200 Prescott to 73.5dC.

Grendel - please quote the source for your numbers as I believe they are low. AMD rate their processors (commonly) to in excess of 85C.

I think a P4 will handle similar kind of temps.

But yeah, 76C is a bit scarey!

AMD CPU's are spec'ed 10-20dC higher than P4's

Well it is a mobile cpu. I would think these would be designed to withstand higher heat since laptops are quite compact.

i would still trust info from the makers website, not a hardware review site, hands down

Go here and choose the right CPU then load its datasheet and check "Thermal Specifications and Design Considerations" for a table labled "Processor Thermal Design Power". Maximum case temperature for a Mobile P4 2.8GHz/133 FSB no HT is 75dC eg. (click).

Having all CPU's on a single sheet is just a lot easier..
