Anyone affected by the protests?
Just currious... was there any massive disruption in anyone's buisness or personal life, or do these illegals really just have worthless jobs that even by walking out for a day the US economy showed no hint of sabotage?
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on disk somewhere.

so just for numbers sake because I'm too lazy to look them up. we have 300 million people in this country most of whom are in the work force, and an estimated 2 million ILLEGALS out of the 12 million ILLEGALS(whom by the way gave us a perfect chance when they rounded themsleves up for deportation) who walked off the job in protest. this equals less than 1% of the workforce that missed work on monday. I would guess there are probably more people who call in sick on a daily basis in the US than walked out in protest monday. the only effect I saw was less traffic on the road on my way home because all those ILLEGALS were off the road protesting

I'd fire an employee in a heart beat for not showing up for work. In fact, I'd lay out strict rules ahead of time that said I wanted a police report or hospital bill for those who tried the call out sick deal, and would fire anyone who simply didn't show up, or couldn't produce paperwork. I would have done the same thing right around the release of Star Wars episode 3, or whatever other rallies might exist. It isn't about preventing people from expressing themselves, it's about people respecting the privilege of working for me. My employees would be free to go through the proper steps to get the day off- and I wouldn't specifically deny them the day because of whatever was happening, but I wouldn't put up with people hurting my productivity because of their agenda. If I was in a situation where I couldn't give everyone their requested the day off, I would probably grant it to those who had been with me for the longest, and too bad for those that didn't get the day off.Zuruck wrote:So you hire illegals? Normally, I agree with you, but this seems a bit harsh. There are things in life that happen like colds, deaths in the family, car problems, etc.,. There is a big difference between an employee who continually violates or takes advantage and employees who love their jobs but have sh1t happen once in a while. Granted, you're free to run your business as you see fit and me, mine, I just think that's a bit harsh.snoopy wrote:I'd fire an employee in a heart beat for not showing up for work. If I had a mexican employee(legal) take the day off for the protest, I'd most likely be very surprised but understanding. While I personally disagree with the protest, I do pride myself on being a fair boss and my employees have been very loyal and love working for me. Rarely does anyone call in sick and usually I have to send them home because they are too sick to work when they are. If an employee just skipped to go to the rally it would be surprising and would make me question why that employee felt the need to disrupt my business when I go out of my way to make sure they are happy.

Don't you mean they would OF been fired?Dedman wrote:If I owned a small business and some of my employees didn't show up to work in order to attend the protests, they would have been fired.

I don't mind someone standing up for what they believe in. I think that is one of the greatest things about this country. However, I would have required them to take a vacation day. If I could spare them that day, go for it, have fun, try not to get hurt.Zuruck wrote:So you hire illegals? Or, you'd fire someone for standing up for what they believe in? Simply not showing up for work however, is unacceptable. I don’t know many companies that allow such unexcused absences, for any reason.
