So Richard relax no issues on our endSince approximately 1:00pm EDT on Wednesday, May 4, Domain Direct was
subjected to a severe and debilitating distributed denial of service
attack. This attack affected most of the services offered by Domain Direct.
Specific issues which were attributable to the attack include:
- issues logging into Website Builder and FTP for Web Identity accounts
- intermittent issues viewing your Web Identity and Advanced Hosting
websites
- issues logging into the Domain Control Panel
- issues accessing the main website <http://www.domaindirect.com>
- Web forwarding was slow and at times unresponsive
- Under Construction pages loaded slowly or not at all
- issues checking, sending and receiving email
- issues serving DNS resolution requests
- issues accessing Blog Identity websites, and the Blog Identity control
panel.
Regular network operations and service capabilities were restored around
approximately 8:00am EDT on Thursday, May 5. You may experience
lingering effects related to this attack for the next 24 to 72 hours.
Specifically, the nature of the counter-measures taken requires that
every DNS server on the Internet be updated with the changes that we
made. This happens on an automated basis, but some DNS servers apply
these automatic updates faster than others. This means, for instance,
that some of our customers will see the impact of our fixes faster than
others. The update of the DNS system may take up to 72 hours.
We sincerely regret the problems and inconvenience that this has caused
you. We will continue to work with other network operators, software
developers and our suppliers to minimize the effects of this and similar
attacks in the future.
We appreciate all of the assistance we've received from the Internet
community, and thoroughly appreciate the patience that you and the rest
of our customers have exhibited. If you have any questions, comments or
concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me or anyone else
from the team directly. Thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Ross Rader
