What brings you peace?
In this day and age, there are more things in the world to prevent you achieving that inner peace which man (and woman!) has sought for millenia. Far from providing more opportunities to find that peace, modern living strives to prevent you finding that place, and if you do find it, your cellphone will ring to drag you from it!
So, what things, or activities give you that deeply satisfied feeling that all things are right in the world, where you feel calm, relaxed and able to drop the stress which normally hangs around your shoulders, like a noose around your neck?
These are the things which I find give me those feelings:
1) Having a lie-down hug with my partner Emma.
2) Having my weekly head and shoulder massage.
3) Weeding and watching my lichen, moss, fern and liverwort garden.
So, what does it for you? I certainly hope something does!

A beautiful summer day, or a nice summer's overcast, or a neat summer storm. I guess I'm fairly easy to please this time of year.
Also, I've also found that as far as hobbies are concerned, working outside is much more satisfying and much less frustrating than working on my PC ever was.
edit: Also 2x Top Gun.

Having a great conversation with my girlfriend, or making her happy.
Seeing a beautiful sunset, and stopping whatever I'm doing and watching it for a bit.
Driving along deserted country backroads at high speed.
Working on my computer or my car.
Slumping in my chair after a long days work, putting on some relaxing music, and closing my eyes for a few minutes.

Good thread.
1) Watching a great football match. The FA cup final for example.
2) Chasing a beer with a joint in my greenhouse as the sun goes down.
3) Not having any women of any kind within listening distance.
4) Sleep.
I've not been at peace at all for the last year or so, things have been going a tad up the creek in the Flabby surroundings. Anything that takes me away from thoughts is peace for me.

Anything that is intangible that feeds my soul brings me peace Walking through the Daintree Rainforest listening to the call of birds and rustlings in the leaves on the forest floor; swimming the Great Barrier Reef marvelling at the diversity or walking along a beach, with no one in sight.
Of course, Music is always there with the ability to transport me away and feeds me constantly with peace when I can't go to the Daintree

A beer, a joint, and giving my gf a long backrub out in the grass. (Getting one is great, but I prefer giving one.)
My acoustic in a park. Along the same lines: hiking (trail or no trail), kyaking. Anything in nature that doesn't include other people.
Reading. Preferrably something educational about the physical sciences.

[Excellent thread!]
Those extra-long hug/hold minutes with my wife, Michelle, when we get home...
Michelle next to me, asleep, with a smile on her face...
Me almost asleep, next to Michelle, her fingers running softly through my hair...
Oddly enough, the last hour of the 11-hour drive to Michelle's family's home in Colorado, when we get over the ridge and see the snow-capped Rocky Mountains...
Eyes closed, cat on my lap, listening to the melancholy strains of my favorite musicians...
And of course: the calm after the storm of a tough well-played Descent3 capture-the-flag match...

I was about to make a post, but then I thought about the last time I was really happy, and not just bulshit that things are ok. The last time I had peace, and hence was happy, was a long time ago. In fact I cant even remember how long ago that was. There is nothing really in life I can say gives me peace. Life sucks.

- Making my wife happy... whether it's from talking, physical intimacy, or just a good day cleaning the apartment
- holding a little baby. We've been busy getting ready for a new addition to our household... a little baby girl... oh, and her parents are moving in with us too.
- sitting in the fake control tower overlooking KBFI (Boeing Field) when there's nobody else around
- prayer, worship, and study (not necessarily in that order)
- the breathing stuff at the start and end of Kendo practice. 'course, it's not exactly peaceful in the middle when I'm running around like a maniac yelling "Kotay-Men" and whacking sensei with a bamboo stick, but still...

What actually brings me peace is.... Jehovah.
And since you had to bring it up, I'd like to take a moment and tell you about Jehovah. He is the creator. He made everything you see, hear, smell, touch and taste. All of these things that other people are attributing to their peace, whether it be kissing, or playing music or walking along the beach or whatever, came from Jehovah. You have him to thank for it. So while everyone else ignores the almighty creater, and Divine Inspirerer of all things, I will mention him as the source of true peace.
Jehovah is love. He is the very personification of love. And it was with love that he gave his only begotten son as a ransom sacrifice for the sins of mankind. However, this beautiful gift does not guarrantee that everyone will be saved. Oh no, you might think that it does, but it doesn't. In fact, it is only those who exercise faith in that gift are the ones that will be rescued out of this wicked world and into a new world, a paradise on this very planet Earth.
I am at peace when I realize how futile man's works are and how swiftly they will be undone on that Final day of Judgement, when Jehovah's King, Michael, also known as the resurrected Jesus Christ, leads the Holy Angels into battle against the world rulers of this planet. All of the presidents, kings, and leaders who oppose him will perish. Then Jesus will capture and imprisson Satan the Devil along with his demons into a spiritual prison where they will be inactive and away from humankind for a thousand years. Then they will be let loose upon this planet once again, but for only a short while, as a test for humanity, which by that point, will have reached perfection in mind and body.
Many humans will rebel and sin and turn against God and loyal humankind. However, quickly will Jehovah act and destroy not only those rebellious humans, but all of the demons, and even Satan himself will actually die, perishing in the figurative lake of fire, or second death.
The thousand year reign of Christ Jesus will bring a great blessing to mankind, both to those then living as well as to untold billions of humans who will be resurrected to life, to be given the choice to change their way of life and live according to God's rule. If they submit to Jehovah's loving rules and obey his son, they will come to know God's love as well as that peace you all seek. If they do not, they will be promptly put to death once again, but will not be brought back. That is the second death.
Finally, after that test at the end of the thousand year reign, all of humankind will become Jehovah's children, and we will then know what real peace means.
That is what brings me peace.
Top that.

I'm doing exactly that next month for vacation! A week on the river in NY in a kyakCyclone wrote:Hiking in the mountains. It's so peaceful there, so quite, no people, no distractions, so refreshing especially after it rains, and taking pictures.
I have to add waking up before my woman does, seeing her sleep. Adorable! (She's 5' on-the-dot)
