I'm trying to get d2x-xl working on my MacBook Pro 15\" Mac O X 10.4.6. I downloaded d2x-xl-osx-1.5.172.dmg and followed the installation instructions. My setup looks like this:
/Applications/d2x-xl
/Applications/d2x.ini (the one that came with the distribution)
/Applications/data/d2demondta/ (demo downloaded from d2x-xl site)
/Applications/data/d2x-xl.hog
/Applications/data/d2xtracker.pl
/Applications/data/default.plr
/Applications/data/descent.tex.eng
/Applications/data/descent.tex.ger
/Applications/data/models/ (Hires PyroGL, what is this?)
/Applications/data/SDL ReadMe.txt
/Library/Frameworks/SDL.framework
When I try to run d2x-xl the app hangs. The FAQ says that this means d2x-xl can either not find the data files, or I don't have the capability with my video hardware. My MacBook Pro uses the RadeonX1600.
I don't have the Descent 1 or 2 data files. Should I be able to run with the demo without these? I have looked around for Descent: The Definitive Edition but haven't been able to find it online (I probably don't know where to look). Where can I get the best deal on game? Does it come on floppys or CD's?
I would appreciate any help on getting this working. I foundly recall playing this years ago and would love to play it again on my new Mac.
