Mobile phone game

Post by Neumaennl »

I am writing a mobile phone game which is almost done now. The homepage is at http://mobilepicross.sf.net and the game can be downloaded at http://switch.dl.sourceforge.net/source ... s_v0.9.jar.

The only thing that I need now is a nice level selection screen but my graphical skills are limited.

Anyone who is willing to help: the picture should match the design of the other screens - the corresponding PNG-files can be found if you rename Mobile_Picross_v0.9.jar to Mobile_Picross_v0.9.zip, extract the files and take a look into the img folder.

I want 12 fields arranged in a 3 by 4 order and a cursor to select one. An alternative to creating an new cursor would be if you could manage to make it look good using the hand cursor that's already there for menu selections.

It shouldn't be too much work and you would help me a lot.

Thanks in advance

Well I got this far all alone and I have to get this finished soon, so I'll probably finish it alone.

Thanks anyways and get well soon.

There are already plans for Mobile Picross 2 which will feature 30x30 puzzles, better sounds, animation, a bitmap font, more levels (the current version will have 12) and better overall graphics. A French guy already asked to join the project and help me with the programming. So if you wanna jump in for the graphics once your thumb is all good again I won't say no.

It's my first bigger project and I do it just to have a serious project, gain some experience, not be bored during the summer and mainly because I really like the game :-)

I've never heard of basewars and I think I'll stick to Picross :-)

Tastes differ, dude! :-P

EDIT: looked for it and it would be a lot harder to implement than Picross although I have to admit that it sounds like fun

Umm, why do you need your thumb to type? If I broke my thumb I would still be able to type just fine. But if I broke both thumbs then mysentenceswouldjustlooklikethis. So stop complaining in every thread you post in!
Why doesn't it work?

I progged it myself and why should I add Spyware to an open source game? It's absolutely risk-free - you can even download the source from the CVS tree and compile it yourself.

You need a cellphone to play it properly, though. Just send the file to the phone and it should get installed. If your phone is not capable of running the game either the game doesn't get installed at all or you get a message when the game starts that your display is too small. If the game doesn't work on your phone or you don't like it for whatever reason (played through it 500 times or you aren't into puzzle games) you can just delete it from your phone and nothing of it will remain on your phone.

There are converters that can make mobile phone games into Windows applications (e.g. midp2exe, google for it) but I experienced some slight graphical bugs in it.

The homepage http://mobilepicross.sf.net will be updated soon to contain more information about the game, so check it out now, if you haven't already and check back in a few days :-)

I'd advise to use a Bluetooth dongle rather than a cable

1st reason: cordless
2nd reason: you can use it with any phone that has Bluetooth (send files to a friend's phone, use it with a phone you might buy in the future)

you don't have to install anything on your phone to receive files from the PC - you have to install drivers for your cable / BT dongle on your PC (should be packaged w/ cable / dongle)
a lot of Bluetooth dongles even work with XP inbuilt drivers

once you've set everything up just send the .jar file to the phone, press 'Yes' or 'OK' a couple of times on the phone and you should be done

if you have any problems just send me a private message or contact me via ICQ (my ICQ Nr. is 333302146)

Bluetooth vs cord

1. Bluetooth is expensive! It uses magic.
2. agents from the matrix can take over your body using bluetooth
3. the cord can be used to fight off angry dogs
4. teeth arnt blue, unless you're a robot

i win

:P
here in Germany a Bluetooth Dongle is about 10-15€ - you won't see a cable that cheap very often

and your other points, well, I don't have to say anything about them, do I?
