Islam is as diverse as Christianity, even among the terrorist it seems:

Crazy, after all the beheadings etc, this was not what I expected to hear. NOT that it makes them nice people or anything, I just find the contrast interesting.

Too bad it wasn't 'his islam' that boarded the planes on 9/11.....

Even "his Islam" believes in kidnapping and holding hostages. At least they took a soldier instead of a civilian though. I suppose they could argue that holding an Israeli soldier is about the same as Israel holding the palestinian women and children in jail, but I'm not buying it.

I think BOTH sides are wrong in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

It appears he has a great deal of diversity even in his own views:

But he later said: “We do not kill captives. Our Islam requires that we treat captives well and fairly.” He declined to say whether Shalit was alive or dead.

from LGF. Homeboy can't decide if it's OK to kill a prisoner or not, and isn't interested in sharing if it's been done or not.

Now, I know there are a lot of other Muslims who hold the view from your original quote, but spokesmen for groups like the IA likely aren't them.

I think BOTH sides are wrong in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

I think the Israelis have made a number of mistakes in this conflict... but they're not operating from a systematically, flagrantly wrong philosophy like the Palestinians (this applies equally to the leadership and the masses.) Israel is not operating on the assumption that the entire other society needs to be exterminated, or that the entire other society needs to be driven off of \"our land\", or that people from the other religion are infidel sons of monkeys and pigs. Israel has prevailed in multiple DEFENSIVE wars, stopped its armies rather than invading other countries (Egypt etc.), and even pulled out of Gaza to allow the Palestinians space to operate... and on the very first day the Israelis were out of Gaza, Palestinians were using old Israeli settlements as launch points for rocket attacks into Israel proper (pre-1967 borders.)

Maybe you should look up the Palestine National Council's plan, formed in 1974 in Cairo. You know, the one that calls for crying \"occupation\" until Israel pulls out of historical (pre-1967) Palestinian territory and then using that territory to launch attacks to destroy Israel. It's what the Palestinians are following now, and it's why arguments like \"both are wrong\" fall flat on their face when exposed to the facts.

Sorry, it sounded like I was equating them, and I didn't mean to do that. The Israeli's are not innocent in this conflict, not by a long stretch, but the irrationality of the PLO exceeds whatever Israel has done. As far as any attempt to create peace, Israel has put forth an effort, largely for economic reasons I feel, but that is completely beside the point. They have put forth an effort. The break almost always comes on the side of the PLO. And who would I prefer to have as Allies? Israel, no competion. I hesitate to call either side the "Good guys", but there can be no doubt the PLO are MUCH, MUCH, badder bad guys. I am not in any disagreement with you about that.

Heh. I actually find this inconsistency MUCH more consistent then just the original quote I found.
