I’ve been taking Aikido since Christmas and I think
it’s the perfect martial art for me. Are you trained
for any kind of combat, dueling, or self
defense?

Imageimageshack.us wayaa!

Aikido: \"The way of harmonious spirit\". A form of self-defence performed with or without weapons (a bokken, bo, or jo, for practice), now recognized as a sport.

Watch aikido in action!

Look, it's a white (belt) boy!

I took Tang Soo Do, I stayed with it until I got my green belt w/2 stripes, then I started chasing women.

I know how to spray people in the eyes with WD-40 and kick them in the nuts and run.

I call this the \"Chin gaow get off my wallet technique\".

I used to have a big stick to whack people in the head when I walk home from school, although now adays I carry a knife to prevent me from getting attacked by a gang again (sticks don't work against 5-6 people, but a knife scares them off).

I took Tae Kwon Do from some dude who wasn't that good IMO anyway. I never went back to pick up my yellow belt. Parents pissed cus I wasted their money, but I tend to do that alot anyway.

BTW: You look like a black dude from the 70's.

Referring to a hakama, I presume?

Aikido is certainly interesting to watch. I have a brown belt in Tang Soo Do and Hapkido.

And the martial arts are about defense, not fighting, grasshopper.

I can turn invisible  waiyaa!

Aikido isn't about winning. In fact if i want to spar at all, i have to find some one who isnt an aikidist. This makes it hard to spar if the other guy is studying Filipino Kick boxing.

My wife and I recently started Kendo training under Yoshi-tsugu Murosako, who is featured in the book The Warrior's Path. Neither of us is very good right now, but we're improving. I expect to get at least the first part of my Bogu by the end of summer.

Ya know lothar, you're taking a martial art i think connects with mine. Aikido uses bokens (or bokkens.. god knows) but i don't think they teach all of the sword fighting techniques kendo teaches. I know it's also a Japanese style so i think there might be some similarities as far as respect and formalities. And i also know that Aikido derives from jujitsu so i might get some of the sword play basics that are taught in kendo. I know that learning kendo wont make me a better aikidoist, but i think it will complete a gap of knowledge i'd like to have. Still... i need to read more to be sure, and i wont start (i mean add) another martial art until i've been with Aikido for more than two or three years.

Eh, take all the martial arts you want, but I've been trained to fight on ice skates. Nothing beats going toe to toe with someone on skates...beats wearing a 'belt'.

then again, catching your knuckles on the other guy's helmet hurts like a bastid...

What would Zuruck do
If he was here right now,
He'd make a plan
And he'd follow through,
That's what fighting Zuruck'd do.
