This probably will be trumped by the feds but this is what the feds should be doing.

Hazleton is in Pennsylvania.
I like and don't like this legislation. Good things:
I like and don't like this legislation. Good things:
- If you hire an illegal alien, you are barred from receiving a city contract or renewing your business license for five years. Further infractions, it becomes ten years.
- If you knowingly rent to an illegal alien, you're fined at least $1,000 per day.
- Churches and other nonprofits are exempt, as well as anyone who is providing emergency medical assistance.

You can get translations easy enough (Just ask any yardworker har har), there are plenty-o-people who speak whatever language. You can go to a high-school, a college, the internet at a library...DCrazy wrote:The bad thing is that all government forms are to be written in English only, [...] and need to do some paperwork to maintain you "Legal status".
I'd say the good far, far outweighs the bad. Besides, I thought you took English courses for free if you were trying to become a resident?
aside:: Shadow, check the topic... "illeagle aliens"

So it's better to force people to go out of their way to find someone to act as a translator (a form of disenfranchisement similar to the poll taxes of yesteryear) and thus discourage them from maintaining legal status? They'll have to learn English for the citizenship test anyway. Which brings me to my next point...Testiculese wrote:You can get translations easy enough (Just ask any yardworker har har), there are plenty-o-people who speak whatever language. Nope. The government does not provide free English classes. You're on your own.Testiculese wrote:I thought you took English courses for free if you were trying to become a resident?
A lot of charities and churches have ESL programs, but they are not mandated to exist, and are provided out of the kindness of the workers' hearts. I almost became an ESL tutor for a local church I was helping out at, and there was certainly no pay involved.

I like it. It takes away (or at least tries to) the economic benefit of coming to this country illegally. I suggested this months ago in another thread. It wasn’t a very popular idea. They are here for work. If you take the work away, there aren’t very many reasons to stay.
Of course, being homeless in the US may just be better than being homeless in Mexico or South America. If that is the case, taking away the work may backfire and we could see the crime rate skyrocket.
Time will tell.

On the other hand, if being homeless in the US isn't better than being homeless in other countries, then it's most likely because the crime rate was already too high!Dedman wrote:Of course, being homeless in the US may just be better than being homeless in Mexico or South America. It's illegle NOT to enforce current immigration law.
I suggest that you locate a few friendly local legal types who will look-up :
USC Article VI,
the sections of Title 18 relating to illegal alien criminals : mandatory misdemeanor capture, deportation, and cost recovery,
the sections of Title 18 relating to illegal aliens criminals : mandatory felony capture, deportation, and cost recovery,
the sections of Title 18 relating to the mandatory duty of local government employees to secure the operation of Federal immigration law by direct action enforcement; nothing in the Constitution, laws, or provisions of local governments with standing,
the sections of Title 18 relating to engaging in RICO activities by commission, omission, and/or being a legal council for criminal enterprises; which includes all aliens, all illegal alien criminal invaders, all citizens, all government employees, all commercial operations, all government operations, all government agencies, and all commercial : public employee practicers of law,
in the matter of all illegal alien criminals, the USC Civil Code sections relating to the Courts always being open and the organization and public duty of every Federal Judicial employee; which, through Article VI and title 18 directly includes, folds in, every State and local judicial employee… see also the corresponding State definitions and rules of civil procedure.

Dealing with illegal immigration seems to be a lose-lose deal by now. I agree with Dedman that rime will spike if this gets enforced on a national scale. I also think that prices will jump. At the same time, just \"putting up\" with illegals totally defeats the purpose of having the laws. We either need to change the law so they are no longer breaking it, or we need to actively enforce the law so that they are no longer breaking it. I agree, though, the way to discourage people from entering illegally is to take away the jobs.
