Netgear DG843G

Post by Hunter »

Does anyone have any experience with this router? I've tried setting up a server (D3 dedicated) and it just refuses to appear on the Internet. It appears on the local machine, however. I've set all the necessary port-forwading and allowances and double, triple checked them.

General rundown of computer:

P4 3.2ghz
1GB DDR
Radeon X1600
1024/512 ADSL

No software firewalls or such running. The router has a hardware firewall, ofcourse. It would be a help if you know this router, OR if you have/had a similar Netgear router that uses the same control panel.

Have you set it to register on the various game trackers and forwarded the tracker ports if needed? Is the computer using a static IP or a DHCP IP inside the LAN?

It was using DHCP, so I set it to static, but that didn't work. I can still see the game on the LAN, but not when entering the Internet IP. Also, none of the trackers pick it up and no one else can find it by entering the IP. I have forwarded all of the ports necessary, including the tracker ports. I've tried setting it up on either system:

The router is at 192.168.0.1
PC at 192.168.0.2
Laptop at 192.168.0.3

Hrm... is there some other app you can run on port 5900 to make sure it's not D3's fault?

Netgear routers were notorious for their performance on Kali as well...

My old router wasn't a Netgear, but it was still broken in pretty much the same way for both applications.

DMZ the server machine completely, will tell you if the port forwarding is working properly or not.
