New nvidia vid drivers

Post by Nosferatu »

nVidia posted 91.47 certified yesterday.

I used them in a couple Descent3 games and Quake4 single player and they seem pretty smooth.

It looks like they have helped tone down that studder effect that Descent3 players get, using DX when first joining a game.

Linux driver releases are still at 87.74, and I'm using 81.78 at the moment, cause it works. I may update to 87.74 before I upgrade ths machine and see if it makes any difference.

all it is, is a GUI for Reg tags. *shrug*. Looks like they're trying to give us some more \"power\". ah well. I don't use it that much anywys. No need for profiles. I've had nothing but trouble with that nonsense.

it actualy takes away power, the classic panel + coolbits gives you ultimate power. add riva tuner and you have even more power

Well, I updated to 87.74, and it didn't make much difference performance-wise, but now I *am* able to overclock my 6200, which would crash with the older drivers. Made about 30FPS difference, which is pretty much worth it when FPS dips below 60 on a regular basis.

I think the main thing about the 8774 drivers in linux is that they Support the new Xorg 7.1. Sheesh, I made the mistake of upgrating xorg to 7.1 and had to wait almost a month for these new drivers \"oops\".
Why doesn't it work?
