It's based on Frank Miller's graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC, where 300 Spartans faced off against a huge army of Persians.

ooh yeah. It's what inspired the class of \"psartan\" to be used in Halo as well. A super elite fighting force in a simular situation. Thanks Flatlander. I had wondered.

Aside from being one the most awesome trailers ever, I know nothing about the movie.
(Seriously, I went to see The Departed, which was a very good movie, but the highlight was seeing this trailer for the first time in the theater).

You're right, unfortunately.
And now that I've actually watched the trailer, it does indeed look pimp. Too bad I'll have to wait till March... *harumph*

I love the texture of the film. gritty and rustic. Kinda surreal. Prolly a dull story line .. known, but great fx and cinimephography..whatever.. sheeesh.

It felt like sin city in the way it was dramatic and sylized.
