I noticed that my old copy of MS office hangs from time to time (version 2002) and Photoshop 7 takes FOREVER to load.
My AMD64 3700+ system loads these apps quick, but this Core 2 Duo machine (the one with these problems) seems sluggish.
Is there some compatability issue with these software titles and the core 2 duo?
This machine is a Core 2 Duo T5500, 1GB RAM, Windows XP MCE 2005.
Core 2 Duo...
google for imagecfg.exe, it'll set a given program to run on a specific processor - that'll make the issue go away.
however, I've ran the CS version of PS, and not noticed this issue on my 3800+ X2, check for a patch for PS7.
make sure you have the latest inf drivers installed from intel.
there are also a couple of hotfixes from MS that deal with dual core chips.

Not quite related, but I'll say this anyway.
I've been using someone else's computer to do gaming, and the hardware was all brand new when it was bought last year.
However, it's slower than my old system of 2003. Reason: too much crap loaded. I'd guess that about 70 processes are running, individual services included (count them all). Lags it to crap.
Cut back on as many programs and services as possible. If you're not actively using it or it's not actively doing anything important, remove it. Use Process Explorer from Sysinternals to see what's running and Autorun Monitor to stop from loading what refuses to be. See the \"Awesome Free Software\" thread for links.
