Verizon DSL working sometimes.

Post by thewolfe »

Verizon DSL working sometimes.

My Aunt has Verizon DSL that was working fine until about a month and a half ago.

Sometimes when she started her computer she could connect and sometimes she could click on IE a few times and get on and sometimes she would have to restart. Also, sometimes if she was off of the computer for a couple of hours she couldn't get on although it was working when she was on earlier.

They sent her a new modem and that didn't help.

She talked to a tech who said it was not in the house and they would send someone out and then called her and said they were able to fix the problem from the office.

Still the same problem.

What should I look for if it's not on Verizon's end?

Also, she is 8 hours away from me but I can use SkyFexFree to see her computer.

Are all the filters on the lines for the phones?

- Is the modem connected via a USB connection?
- Log into the modems admin page is the modem set for always on or On demand?
- Do you not Power cycle the modem at least once a month to clear out the website log?

If you do not understand any of the above then click me

Not USB
Will try the admin page
Never heard of clearing the website log. What does that do?

Goto the configuration page of her NIC card (nic properties, power mgmt) and disable the \"allow the computer to turn off this device to save power\".

This could be the issue.

If she has auto-update, that could reset previously unset settings.

If the new modem didn't fix it, I doubt it's the modem log then.

What info do I need to get into her modem configuration?

Remember, I'm not at her house.

Are the modem settings on-line or is that only if she has a router?

If you are using a router the only thing left you can really try is checking the keep connection alive box (In the router setup page, most have this).

Otherwise it sounds like it is something on Verizon's end.

It's a Westell 6100 which I don't think is a router.
