Save data from laptop HD?

Save data from laptop HD?

The data on a desktop computer can be saved if the HD is still ok and can be \"slaved\" to another computer.

Can I do that w/ a laptop HD that won't completly bootup?

Yes, but you have to buy the hardware to do it. Depending on what type of drive it is, there are a couple options available.

You can get a laptop to standard IDE converter and connect it to a cable from your computer, or you can get a USB adapter like this:

Find out what type of connector the drive has and get an adapter so you can connect it to your desktop PC. Beware the dinky USB ones like the one I linked though, they are touchy and generally a pain to work with, but they can save you a TON of work in a tight spot if you work around their bugs. I have one and it has problems copying large amounts of data around, tends to freeze up and you have to unplug it from the USB and the drive to get it to work again.

Bought a regular (not USB) adapter but.....my adapter wouldn't fit after I added a regular HD jumper. Does the 2.5 drive take different jumpers.

Try loading it on a empty ribbon cable with no jumpers, remove your cdrom drives and use that ribbon, dump its contents to a temp folder on your HDD.
