The .cda files are just Windows' representation of the tracks on the CD and as far as I know have no particular purpose other than as a plug for the UI (double-clicking on one will open some random CD player application).
What you need is what's called a CD ripper. CDex is a good, easy-to-use ripper. Google it. I don't remember if it comes with an MP3 encoder or not, I use optimized versions of aoTuV's OGG encoder (21-24x encoding on my A64 X2 4200+ with CPU cycles left to spare ).

im guessing these files on the HD, and not a cd, then you can't do anything with them.pATCheS wrote:The .cda files are just Windows' representation of the tracks on the CD and as far as I know have no particular purpose other than as a plug for the UI (double-clicking on one will open some random CD player application).

The files are IRRELEVANT! They're placeholders! Links that tell Windows CD player where to look! CDex doesn't even touch them, it uses special API calls to get to the data on the CD as directly as possible. CD ripping is an essential function, *of course* there's software that can do it. So just get it and be happy. It even supports CDDB, so your ripped MP3s will be tagged proper (ie, show artist/album/track names on your player). And, as always, Google is your friend.
