1 flat panel monitor and 1 laptop?

Post by thewolfe »

Can you set up a laptop to view it's screen and a flat panel monitor w/ different sites at the same time?

A friend works w/ stocks and needs to see a bunch of internet stock charts at the same time.

I set him up with M$ Virtul Desktop and IE7 using tabs at this point.

Depends on the laptops graphics card. Most nVidia cards eg. can exactly do that.

When he goes into Display settings 2 \"monitors\" show up there.

How do you set up to view both?

I'll Google also.

Thanks.

There is probably a video out on the laptop somewhere, you plug your monitor into it and setup dualview in video settings.

Also, you can switch modes on it just like you can on your laptop. Function key, and whatever key is defined for that on the laptop (usually f10)

In the settings tab, right click the second monitor, and make certain \"attached\" is checked. Then check \"Extend my desktop onto this monitor\" and click OK.
That should do it.

Most of the laptops I deal with is FUNCTION+F4 or F5 to switch between laptop, laptop and monitor or just monitor.

It works basically the same as a dual-monitor setup on a desktop. The laptop screen is generally seen by the video setup as the primary monitor.

In my case, I plug my work laptop into a docking station, which has two video-outs, plugged into two separate monitors.
