Trojan horse PSW.Generic3.tx

Trojan horse PSW.Generic3.tx (C:\\Windows system\\dllms.dll)

Working with AVG 7.1 on Win ME. Won't take 7.5

Healed it, comes back at startup.

Used Killbox, no help.

The dll file is not visable in Windows system.

Any ideas?

Turn off System Restore. Delete temp files. Run Anti Virus. Reboot.
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on disk somewhere.

Hit F8 when booting and goto SAFE MODE. Turn off System Restore, delete temp files, run AV. Reboot.

And if that doesn't work, stick the hdd in another machine and run an AV.

This is the end......

I did get AVG 7.5 going after a couple of tries.

Still didn't do the trick.

I hate to give up on something like that w/o being able to solve it, but since I don't have unlimited time and it's my wife's computer, I wiped it out this a.m. and installing XP.

Thanks for all your posts.

a good place to start is by disabling System Restore, or using a bootable CD, something like BartPE.

Above posters have good advice. Start in Safe Mode. Disable System Restore. Use Spybot S&D/AdAware, AVG scanner. Rinse and repeat in Normal mode.
