More RAM?

Post by thewolfe »

I trying to speed up an eMachine eMonster 800 running XP.

I looked on Crucial and it said not to exceed 256mb.

I had already added another 128mb and it shows up as 384 in the properties of My Computer.

Am I getting what I see and can I try for a total of 5142mb?

What could happen besides it not working?

Just looked up an eMachine 600 I have and it says 512mb capacity. Since the 800 shows 384mb, can I assume the 800 should also take 512mb?

wish i could have that much!! too bad 32bit CPU's can only address ~3072 MB of RAM

probably give you a BIOS Beep, or will not show all the RAM installed in windows and/or BIOS Screen.

Or show the amount of RAM you installed, but fail to address it properly resulting in a HIGHLY unstable (if usable) system.

Are you sure Crucial didn't mean don't exceed 256MB sticks or total? What's the actual motherboard it uses?
