I have a friend who has a Sony Vaio PCV-RX6809 desktop that Sony partitions w/ C: & D:.
She only has their restore disk which, from what I can decipher, allows her to re-install C: or C: & D:.
Can she use an XP cd to \"repair\" so she doesn't have to wipe out a partition?
The reason for the question is that her machine boots to the XP screen and no further.
We tried Safe mode & \"Last Known....\". It won't boot into Safe mode and \"Last.....doesn't correct the problem.
Also she's a couple hours away otherwise I'd try to slave it to ck for viruses and see if I can see the drive.

If it is really an XP disk and not some \"system restore\" disk she should be able to do a repair install. However if she has installed IE7, there will be complications that will have to be resolved or internet explorer will be broken after the repair install is done.
Find out if it she has a real live XP install disk, otherwise the repair option is not available.
