Descent 3 install no more?

Post by Kyouryuu »

I'm having problems trying to install Descent 3. When I insert CD 1, the Descent 3 logo comes up and the initializing setup bar appears. It fills to 100% and then hangs. Same thing occurs on a cloned Descent 3 CD 1 from a couple years ago.

Does this problem sound familiar to anyone? I'm thinking something on my system might be causing setup to fail.

Kill all the processes running the background you don't need.

Went and installed under Safe Mode and it works fine... although under the dual monitor setup, the secondary monitor does some wacky garbled stuff while the game is running.

ATI Radeon 9700 on three-week-old Catalyst drivers. The second screen only garbles during certain events, like loading screens. During actual gameplay, it's just fine.

Direct3D or OpenGL? Both have their own bugs when in 2D mode. Do the glitches happen when there's UI up (like the Save Game box)?

if like nVidia in your video card's control panel, where you can configure special game settings. Instead of using global defaults, create one game specific.

Disable all special features that you know is not supported by the game, and also set for single display driver only since ATI and Open GL do not like each other.

I had that issue with D1x rebirth and D3 but not D2x

I seem to have a better workout dodging your stupidity than attempting to grasp the weight of your intelligence.

I've never had any trouble, nor any such issues with dualview, though I have an nVidia card.

With nvidia cards the second display doesn't corrupt, but the desktop wallpapers and windows on that display will move about somewhat strangely whenever a game or something changes the screen resolution on the primary monitor. It isn't a problem with the ATI or nvidia cards, it is a problem with windows itself, so it can not be avoided. It happens because D3 forces all menu screens and loading screens to display in 640x480 resolution. When you are actually playing, the secondary monitor is probably fine because you likely set the in-game resolution to the same as the full desktop resolution.
