Pentium 4 EE vs. Pentium 4 Prescott

im looking to buy a P4 Extreme Edition based on the Gallatin core, would a mobo that supports Prescotts support a EE Chip?

yes, check for bios updates first.

don't pay more than 30 for it tho.

I hope you are stuck with a socket 478 board and that is why you aren't getting a C2D. :P

why no more than $30 :?: i have the latest BIOS For my board, ill have to read the release notes

socket 775 motherboards start at 44bux. Add another 200 and you have a C2D system.

nvm, i looked up Asus CPU Compatability and my board does support the P4EE

not worth it for 200 - thats 200 better saved than spent.

Agreed. I would honestly take that money and put it towards an upgrade. (or in your case Ace, an overhaul)

Remember, some older Socket T motherboards don't support the 1066 MHz FSB that Core 2 CPUs require. Actually, the Core 2 Duo E4000 sequence might work, but I doubt it.

And just for your info, Ace, it's P4XE, not EE. :)

well, i just picked up this.

Intel D865GLC Socket 478 Motherboard for P4 Extreme CPU

and

Pentium 4 Extreme 3.4 EE SL7CH 478 2MB HT P4 CPU

this is the last upgrade on my AGP Machine, then its onto PCI-E, i have 14 days to return the 7800GS to newegg, but if it works on this motherboard, then im good to go.
