Coop D3 question

Post by Duper »

Is there a setting in D3 coop that allows you to keep your weapons from level to level? Is there a hack? does 1.5 allow it?

thanks!

Prolly piggy backs on the fact that in any game mode you don't keep your weapons, becuase there is no reactor to blow and exit to get to that would allow you to keep the guns that you had collected.. Pain in the ASCII though...

In Forsaken you lost your weapons even between single player missions.

It means that you'll have to fight your way to the primaries you want, which
adds to the challenge and makes the game a bit less boring.

I kinda like it.

Any true Descenter/6dof fan should have at least tried Forsaken. I never finished it even though I did play a couple levels, it was ok but not as good as Descent... :P

Yeah, I have it for the PS1, went through a few levels, but there was some kind of switch or something that was virtually impossible to find, so I never got past a certain level, and just gave it up. It just doesn't have the same appeal as Descent.

Did you try it in multiplayer? It's more like D1, where you
need more skills than just missile chucking to win.

yup! There was something about it that i just didn't care for. Kinda like the same something in Tribes. It's the \"feel\" of the game. The colors I can deal with. I played it for a couple weeks in Kali years ago. A guy named Rook (of THUGS clan) tried getting me into it. I still have the disk, which surprised me. I thought I'd lost it ages ago.

I played Forsaken (still have a copy) but the flickering lights gave me headaches. So I just use the audio from it for taunts in D3. :D

On topic, I don't think I've ever played D3 (or D2 or D1) in co-op. However, since I run it in Linux, I need to find another Linux player to play with... Xamandir and I had talked about it a while back, but things got stupidly busy for me, and I haven't even played single-player in months. Plus my main computer's mobo died... *sigh* maybe sometime. Xam, if you're reading this, we need to play again sometime.

You know those irritating little Orbots in Descent 3? The tiny blue robots that are somewhat hard to shoot because of their size?

In Forsaken, every enemy is a heavily armored Orbot. It blows.

The crazy colors I don't mind too much. It's no worse than Descent 3 in a darkened level. But the texturing and level architecture is something awful. Doom and Descent both have rather pleasing, esoteric looks to them. Forsaken is a comparative mess of misaligned textures and odd choices.

Funky, I'm not sure about that. If 1.4 works with linux then anyone should able to coop with you. 1.5 is another matter as the linux code was never completed.

Would love to give it a try.

Well, from what I understand, Munk's checksum fixer doesn't work on co-op (and obviously single-player) so it would work if the levels check out okay... I haven't tried it, and until I fix my Linux machine, I'll have to wait and see.

On the plus side, I ordered the parts to fix it today. Newegg FTW! When I get it back up and running, I'll let you know.

Oh, btw, about that Orbot stuff...
Kyouryuu wrote:In Forsaken, every enemy is a heavily armored Orbot. It blows.
How's that? I found them to be no harder to take down than D3 bots,
even on Hard difficulty.

It's the D3 robots more than any others which rely on their size to be
hard to hit, because of the accurate collision detection.

But, Forsaken AI is extremely specialized on combat; most of the flying
robots are good at dodging and even actively dodge homing missiles. And
it gets even better with my favorite example, the Levitank. For those who
don't know, it's a rather small, black robot that fires double lightning bolts
which are hard to avoid. This bot has many weaknesses: it moves slowly,
it turns slowly, it cannot turn vertically, and although its turrets can fire
upwards, it can't hit you if you're below it. Yet, despite all this, the bot is
good at dodging your shots and even keeping a clear shot on you. It moves
effectively and efficiently. If you use pulsar, it will close in on you. If you use
the suss, it will try to get some distance, all while zapping you with its
lightning bolts. The best thing to do is usually to just kill it as fast as
possible to minimize the damage it can do. A frustrating but interesting bot.

So yeah, they are hard to hit, but it's not because of their size.

IMO, the thing that really sucks about Forsaken singleplayer is the bosses. The
flesh morph can take quite a beating, but even on Medium difficulty you barely
have enough ammo for it, and there's nowhere to recharge. The final boss is no
challenge at all, dead with a single titan and a few shots.
