something crapped out when I did the windows update for kb927978. it left a goofy named folder on my C: drive, which contains a log file and also a drivers subfolder. I've poked around through enough forum posts that say it's ok to delete the main folder and the log file, but I can't because the drivers subfolder won't delete. I also can't view the contents of the drivers subfolder. How can I make this piece of M$ garbage go away?
Rebooting didn't get rid of it? Often updates that need to do something at the next boot will leave a folder on the hard drive till the next reboot. If that doesn't work, uninstall the update and reinstall it from windows update and reboot then see what happens.
Well, it's gone (the drivers folder, i mean). I tried a manual reinstall of the kb927978 from the MS site, but the folder was still there. So I called up MS and (egads) let one of their techs take control of my desktop thru livemeeting. he dicked around for about 10 minutes and removed some security item on the folders properties tab, then he was able to delete the folder. I'll cross my fingers that nothing else is borked.
