What? TunderBunny not posting a serious thread? Dear LORD!
And remember folks, the only people to be criticising the '72 virgins' thing are Christians. But that's only because the bible only mentions spending eternity with one virgin... I think they call her 'Mary'. Some people can get so jealous...

Uh, what? That came from left field.TIGERassault wrote:the bible only mentions spending eternity with one virgin... I think they call her 'Mary'.
The Bible never talks about Mary as being particularly special except for the whole "mother of Jesus / virgin birth" thing; she's never mentioned as eternally significant, though the Catholic church has some wacky traditions that suggest she is. Search the Bible for the name "Mary" -- aside from the familiar Gospel stories (Jesus' birth and childhood, Jesus saying "my mother and brothers are the ones who follow me" and therefore DENYING SIGNIFICANCE to Mary, the crucifixion, etc.), the name occurs twice in Acts and once in Romans, and only the first mention in Acts is of that particular Mary. There are also several mentions of Jesus' brothers -- so I seriously doubt Mary remained a virgin :P
The Bible does mention spending eternity with Jesus, who, as far as we know, is a virgin. And it speaks of "A Holy City... Jerusalem" as the bride of Christ. So I suppose the Islamikazes are at a +71 on us :P

Re:
I don't recall any comment about sex, only a comment about marriage. There may be an implication about sex there, but nothing is stated explicitly.Duper wrote:if you read closely, Jesus made it rather clear that that there will be neither sex nor marrage in heaven.
Some people had argued, essentially, that there couldn't be an afterlife because if a woman was widowed and remarried, she'd have multiple husbands in heaven. Jesus' response to them was "of course there's an afterlife, it just doesn't work like you think it does. Marriage doens't carry over like that; it's an entirely different experience."
Testi's comment about LOVE not carrying over, though, is totally incorrect. Probably the one thing all Christian sects can agree on is that heaven will be full of love -- love between people, love from people to God, and love from God to people. How exactly that plays out is a matter of great speculation (as we discussed back in April; see Foil's post and mine); the only thing we know for sure is that it's different.
Not to derail the OP, but -

You're welcome.
As to the OP, the vid might be funny, except that it is tragically pathetic in the cluelessness of the two American slacker protagonists. Then again, maybe it really isn't that funny at all, all by itself.

Ah. So then there's the ultimate question about which religion is better:Lothar wrote:The Bible does mention spending eternity with Jesus, who, as far as we know, is a virgin. And it speaks of "A Holy City... Jerusalem" as the bride of Christ. So I suppose the Islamikazes are at a +71 on us
Is having sex with Jesus better than having sex with 72 regular virgins?
