Actually this question is harder to reply to than it seems at first.
Doom 1 was incredibly fun in multiplayer.
Descent 1 made me go crazy. It was just awesome: A small space vessel hovering nicely up and down in a fully 3D tunnel world with nasty and futuristic enemies and weaponry.
Half-Life 1 was a revelation regarding story and execution. I forgot all and everything while playing it. It's the only game I have ever played through twice, because usually I can remember most of a game I have played even years later, which just takes the thrill out of replaying it. Seeing Half-Life again was almost as impressive as the first time.
I never played any other game consistently over such a long period of time as Battlefield 2 (okay, not scifi, but well ...). But all of a sudden I was completely done with it.
Now I am back to Descent. It somehow never gets old: The beautiful style of movement, this weightless dance of the ship defying gravity, the environments with their strong contrasts and (with D2X-XL) strong light effects manage to excite me again and again. And then it's such a wonderful programming playground ...
So each of the games I have listed had something very unique making it my favorite at one time. But only Descent really stood the test of time, so it probably deserves being crowned all time favorite.

Multi? Descent. Single player? Freespace.

Whoops! You're right, but I can't remove "Freespace" from the poll. >~<

I like DOOM (ZDOOM) too, that game has a lot of blood.
I love DESCENT (DESCENT: Rebirth) and it made me crazy too. @_@ Cuz DESCENT has many controls.
I played classic HALF-LIFE before but it's too easy to win on HARD. and I have HALF-LIFE 2, bit better than classic.

In gameplay, definitely.WillyP wrote:Even Doom 3, hires graphics etc... still lame compared to Descent.
However, there is "Into Cerberon", giving us Descent gameplay with the awesome Doom3 graphics!

No, he meant to say \"Doom 3, hires graphics etc... still lame compared to Descent\".
Why? Because of the gameplay!
Doom3 had better graphics, but it's still a \"ground-pounder\", so it lacks the glorious freedom of the Descent series (including D1). I agree with him.
Another way to say it.
I played through the Doom3 campaign once; tried Doom3 multiplayer once. It was fun. Won't play through it again.
I played through Descent(1) many, many times. It never gets old. Some of my favorite memories of college were playing D1 late into the night with my brother and some friends. It was fun... I'll probably be playing Descent for the rest of my life!
Note: Given the current results of the poll, I think many people here are going to agree with me on this. After all, it's the DescentBB!

I suggest you start caring. Hotlink from the wrong place, and they may end up changing the image to something rather naughty which would end up you getting banned from here. If you embed it, host it yourself. Theres only a few thousand free www hosts out there, pick one.Jonathan Paskiewicz wrote:I don't care...
