On my hand-me-down computer I have loaded a few new programs and started tweaking things.
I noticed under Docs & Settings the old user's name is there and under his \"Apps\" there are some of the programs I installed.
Can I delete the old user and all the folders?
I would still have \"Default\" and Owner although I don't see some of my installed programs under either name.
If I can't delete, can I rename?
He does not showup under \"Users\" in the Control Panel.
Delete old user?
Yes.
Do not delete All Users.
Do not delete Default User.
Do not delete/rename the account you are logged in as.
Right click My Computer. Advanced Tab. User Profiles.
Edit: You may want to create a fresh new Admin account and start there. Although I have seen odd things crop up if you delete the admin account that was created during Windows setup.

Re:
Correct, repair preserves the existing user accounts and most of the settings. Just boot off the disk and do a new install with formating the drive (google how to back up windows activation so you can skip calling microsoft to get it reactivated).thewolfe wrote:Thanks. I might just start from scratch. The old user on there is bugging me and that way all would be new again.
If I "repair" from Winxp cd I assume it will keep the old users.
