Is this pot? (Cannabis)------------------------------help

Post by Isaac »

So walking back to my apartment i find this plant that's been growing. We're allowed to grow plants in the hallway but this one looks kinda familiar.
ImageImage
It really doesn't look like it's gowning like Cannabis but the leaves really kind of look like it. Also it dosn't smell like pot, but i don't want to break a peice off to smell it's inside (if it is pot i don't want).

Also.. what should i do? I've had roommates that smoke pot, and i don't care. It's not bad, but there are kids that live in this area. That's my only problem with it. Pot (which i see as far less dangerous than beer and pain killers) probably isn't worth getting this chick arrested for growing it. But i can't sit by and do nothing. but then again... this probably isn't pot.

edit-----------
ok here's an update

look at this pic from this site.

not in the least.

The stem's too thin.

the leaves don't have enough fingers.

there's no fuzz.

and the stalk doesn't have the right splits.

(yea I'm a little shaky on my horticultural terms. Feel free to correct any discrepancies)

It can also grow very high like a tree or short like a bush depending on the type.

It can have from 1 to 18 petals.

Not sure about the fuzz.

what do you mean, splits?

It doesn't look like pot. For example, the fingers seem to be 'webbed' more than a cannabis plant, it seems to be spikier than one, and the fingers are too rounded.

It even looks more like some sort of miniature horse-chesnut than a cannabis plant.

I vote no.
At that size you should'nt have to \"break\" the plant to be able to smell if it's pot or not.
It looks to me like a variety of maple. There are several varieties out there that resemble (loosely) marijuana plants.

If you're that concerned, knock on the door and ask the occupant what kind of plant that is. Chances are if they're stupid enough to grow pot outside their apartment they would be stupid enough to tell you it was.

As far as what to do about it if it was marijuana (which I'm sure it isn't), How about just asking the person to move the offending plant out of public view?
At this stage if it was marijuana, it would'nt get anyone high. It would most likely give someone a raging headache tho!

Note that Cannabis has seven leaves, your picture has 5. So, my guess is that its a Kenaf or Hibiscus. My mother has one of these growing outside her house and we've made no end of jokes about it. :)

It isn't a weed plant. There was a plant like that growing in the parking lot next door and I thought the same thing but realized it couldn't be. It needs 7 leaves.

pot plants have 5, 7 or 11 leaves.

This plant's leaves are too broad, and the leaves on the very bottom are..well I dunno, but a pot plant wouldn't have them.

The leaves are not seperate when you look closely. Some pot plants DO have wider leaves. Some have thinner. But those leaves aren't really even leaves... they are all meeting towards the base... aka no fun for you in 6-9 months. Sorry man.

Yes and the question should be;

What Should Isaac Have Done?

a) Try smoking the plant
b) Strip the leaves, dry then weigh into baggies and try selling to the gangs or local bakery.
c) Ripped the plant out and start a botany War with the female neighbor complete with Paraquat , trained monkeys, and IR cameras
d) Try going to a social gathering called a Rock Concert in order to see first hand the effects of ALL the drugs,(usually plenty of experts in each field to observe)
e) Trained his Cat to poop in the plant pot< words can be interchanged :P
f) Chill

Even if it is Pot, it could be the male type that you don't get high on.

I can say first hand this plant is not any marijuana.... My friend has one of these plants in front of his house at first glance I too thought that it was a non-budding male plant just growing there.... but do notice that marijuana is a WEED not a plant, this plant is happy its size, Marijuana would look like its has taken all the area up and still be growing all gnarly with 4x the leaves.

Pot plants are by nature tall and lanky. You have to clip them to get a short, fat bush.

Ah, so train his Cat to plant pot in his poop.

The leaves on the very bottom are the give-away that this is not a cabbabis plant. IIRC young small cannabis leaves look like miniature normal Cannabis leaves. The young leaves on the bottom of that plant look like maple leaves.

Lol Roid, I imagine a Cat trained to do that would belong to Cheech and Chong. I can see the scene now, instead of mostly Labrador it would be mostly Tabby.

Makes me wonder if some passersby wondered what I was growing!
