It's time to OC my 4400

Post by ReadyMan »

I've been playing Supreme Commander a bit lately, and realize that I need more juice out of my pc. It's about a year and a half old, and I havent OC'd it yet, but I think it's time. I bought the RAM and the CPU cooler specifically to OC, so it should do pretty well.

Part of the reason I havent OC'd is because I have no idea what to do. I OC'd my p4 in the past, but it's been a while, and I dont recognize the Bios commands for this AMD setup.

Can someone give me (the uber noob OCer) some step by step instructions?

here's the pertinent info on the system:

DFI Lan Party NForce4 SLI-DR Audio/GB-LAN
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Dual-Core 1MB
Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu Silent CPU Cooling
2 GB (2 pcs 1GB) OCZ dual channel platinum DDR
HD SATA3G Western Digital Caviar SE 250 GB 16mb cache

I can get to the Bios....heh. After that, what do I do?

Thanks!

Time to upgrade. ^_~

You should consider buying a computer with a Core 2 Quad processor... or Core 2 Extreme QX6850 (if you can afford it =P). Also, get a GeForce 8800 GTX. You know you want to. ^_~ Anyone have any idea when \"Penryn\" is supposed to debut?

I was actually wondering what the fastest processor I could get for my current MB...just a cpu upgrade would be relatively cheap.

It might still be possible to find a 939 pin X2 or Opteron dual core, you might have more luck on ebay than retail at this point though.

An Opteron would work fine as long as the BIOS supported it. I'm running a 165 in on my Asus A8N5X right now and it works great!

Newegg

Just make sure your BIOS supports higher than E4 stepping chips.
