Quoted just so you can't take it back...

It is there most likely because you or someone else who uses your computer put it there, not because it comes with windows or office/word. You could technically use it almost anywhere you want, even on the title bars and regular text in windows.

And you have updates pending in automatic updates, you should probably install them or I'll haxor your computer.

Maybe you somehow got my old computer ...

Those fonts are handy for making Descent wallpapers and the like. I'm pretty sure I actually did use one of them as a Windows font at one point or another.

Sorry but you installed the Descent font.....

A: you went to PD and downloaded and installed it
B: you went to Descent2.com and downloaded and installed it
C: installed a Descent Related Theme

Scary to think you have no clue what you install on your PC

is it possible that when he installed D3 itself? because i am 100% positive that i have NOT downloaded any fonts from any of the Descent websites and i have that font aswell in my Word

Nope, it doesn't come with Descent, I have installed all three Descents and expansion packs, and it isn't available in word, you must have installed a Descent theme in windows or something like that.

Since I haven't tried 2007 I can't give a well founded opinion, but due to the fact that M$ Word costs money I use open office instead. It's worded a bit differently and things aren't exactly where they are in Word, but aside from that it's great!

I haven't tried 2007, but 2003 lost all its points in my book because of the FRIGGIN automatic chapter numbering that took me more time to get right than writing my PhD thesis itself!

you guys using Word, you should try Open Office - it's free, identical to MS OFFICE (incl word), and always up to date with patches etc coz it's free - no paying for updates.

Microsoft Office is actually a nice product, I'll give them that, but free and good tops $300 and good anyday.

Long live OpenOffice.

Two features of OpenOffice I particularly like are the native PDF export across the entire suite and Impress's (a.k.a. Powerpoint) Flash export.

Sorry, it is NOT identical to MS OFFICE (incl word). The differences are so plentiful and obvious, there isn't any need to debate or argue the subject.

Also, Way too easy to find things that are not "right" when comparing the two, especially when you make a doc in Word and then open in Open Office, or make a doc in Open Office and then open it in Word. ... However, if you never have need to exchange files between the two products... (and you get used to where the commands are at in Open Office)... then it's never a problem.

ya i've got both too. After grabbing openoffice i'll never be buying MSoffice again, it's just a no brainer now.

OpenOffice is fine if the cost is a big issue for you. It's a cheap knock-off of MS Office, make no mistake, but that's good enough for most people.

However, the flipside of that argument; it is, for the most part, plainly inferior to MS Office as well. Compared to Office 2003, there are plenty of things that are much harder to achieve in OpenOffice, and of course there are compatibility issues. Office 2007 makes them both look outdated (and I'm not just talking about the interface; things like live previews and quick styles are a great step forward).

So, if you can get it, MS Office is better; if you can't, though, OpenOffice will do the job just fine.

Doc isn't supposed to be interoperable, since that would defeat Microsoft's business model. If you really want your documents to look exactly the same to all your readers as it does to you, you're going to be exporting your documents to pdf anyways, which is what pdf is for, and this is something that OpenOffice will happily do. Distributing editable documents can be somewhat more problematic--here you're just going to need to be consistent with your editor if you want to keep your sanity.

But I prefer vim anyways.

Last I heard, Microsoft had been planning to make a free OpenDocument export add-in available for Office 2007. Did that end up happening? It would go a long way towards bridging the compatibility gap (as long as Microsoft's ODF export was compatible with the specs

The PDF export was much needed, although I'm surprised they managed to do that without gaining Adobe's eternal enmity - after all, who's going to buy Acrobat for Office file conversions now?

As for the ODF convertor, the one I was thinking of was to be written by Microsoft, but Open Source is better anyway.

You're probably thinking about DOCX or something... although it's hard to be too sure. That's XML though, so it's a bit easier for competing products to interpret.

Microsoft may be paying royalties to Adobe for the PDF exporter, though... who knows.

PDF is mostly an open ISO standard now. There are certain proprietary parts, but most is open and royalty-free.
