Thanks for all the critics
1280x960, and smaller 4:3 res
Link to TGA format (copy/paste link in a new window)
1440x900, and smaller 16:10 res (do they exist?)
Link to TGA format(copy/paste link in a new window)
Larger 1680x1050 16:10 for CDN_Merlin(copy/paste link in a new window)
///OLD POST
Hi all, I had a good time making stuff for d2xxl. This is the intent, somethng wich recreates the old d1 atmosphere. Not finished, I'm adding the last touches, so don't save this img, just add a comment.
PREVIEW
it's large enough and will fit any 4:3 resolutions lower or equal than 1280x960.
I will make a 16:10 version (for my notebook ), and you can request a different res, I can render a new one without stretchings.
bye

Do you mean the rock behind the letters?Duper wrote:Don't forget the slight red glow on the lower rocks.
What do you mean with 'painted'? i thought the letters were intended to be glowing. But I admit they're really dark.Great job! I think it would look best if the letters were red-painted metal and scratched to all hell.
Also: there is a little watermark in the lower-right corner ('md1053'). Can you spot it? I have to tweak the brightess, too..

If you look at the old D1 load screen, there is a bit of redish light on the bottom of the picture. Like faint light of lava reflecting off of the rocks.
The "DESCENT" part is fuzzy because that part of the screen won't res to my monitor: 1400x1050
Re: Reply
I like the first version of the rock background better.
That "reddish light" is the upper half of the picture as well. I guess those red splotches are just conversion artifacts.Duper wrote:If you look at the old D1 load screen, there is a bit of redish light on the bottom of the picture. Like faint light of lava reflecting off of the rocks.
Re:
From the image type of whatever program the texture was made in to a palettized D1 texture with its limited amount of colors.Duper wrote:conversion artifacts? conversion from what?
The rock texture was probably grayscale before it got converted. There are red, yellow, green, turquoise and blue pixels scattered everywhere.
Re:
I guess the amount of actual gray colors in Descent's palette is quite limited. So the converter (using a simple RGB nearest-color algorithm) decided those slightly colored colors matched the source grays closer than the actual grayscale tones found in the palette.zico wrote:The screen looks the same in the old DOS version.
So either it's intended to be a red glow or Parallax messed a palette color here.
