Google video won't run

Post by thewolfe »

A friend was sent the following link and the video won't load. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... pr=goog-sl

Can't view anything on Google video.

I ck'd her security settings, downloaded a new Adobe Flash Player, ck'd her Security settings against mine......

She's running XP SP1, IE6. Won't load SP2.

Any suggestions?

You could try using this tool to remove it then reinstall it.
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewCon ... &sliceId=1

Also try disabling a bunch of addons in IE to see if there is a conflict.

IE6? won't load SP2? What's up with that? Is she running a bootleg XP?

No bootleg....http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885626

Think that's what's happening.

Haven't tried the fix. Computer is in another state from me and I'm not comfortable with the BIOS upgrade.

There are 3 possible reasons a working XP SP1 system fails to accept SP2.
  • The BIOS upgrade. Don't like it? You may not have any choice.
  • Screwed up (dorked, borked, call it what you want) system software (can include badly fragmented, insufficient space, etc.)
  • Anti-virus and system protection software
Since we already know you can't seem to get the Google video to work despite repeatedly removing and re-installing key software ... I'm betting on the \"dorked, borked\" reason.

She has Norton 2006 ver 14.0.4.1 which I would like to turn off/disable to see if Norton's interfering.

How do I turn off/disable Norton?

Also ... the Norton/Symantec's products always provide the option of right-click the tray icon and one of the options is to disable (at least temporarily) the Norton/Symantec product.

She was sent some pics on Picasa on the web and couldn't open them and got the following message:You are using a browser that is not fully supported. Some features may not work too well.....
She got one pic that was one the side but got only \"Loading\" for the main group that never came up.

Still same conclusion?

She's in her 80's so I would rather not do the FireFox thing.

She does use AdAware & Spybot.

Where would I post Hijack this?

Run Spybot/Ad-aware and look for problems.

You can post the Hijack-this log here if you aren't familiar with it. I can tell you if anything looks out of the ordinary.

I'll ck AdAware & Spybot myself. Here's the hijackthis log.

http://www.dougsstuff.com/hijackthis.log

Also I use Skyfex & LogMeIn to assist her.

I guess the above link will work. How do I hyperlink from this page.

ugh

Why do you have both Norton and AVG installed on that machine? Get rid of the Norton. I also noticed that she has a multitude of search toolbars in her browser. I suggest you uninstall all of them, but keep the google toolbar only if you must. (the MyWebSearch toolbar is adware btw) Also, get rid of the \"privacy keeper\" crap. All that garbage does is bog the system down.

I tried to get into the site thru Safemode but no go.

Then I tried to get on the site again and noticed a \"Restricted\" note at the bottom of IE.

I went into Internet Tools and Security/Sites and Google was a restricted site.

All that for that. I did clean up the Toolbars while I was at it.

P.S. She was using Google all the time to search don't know why that was causing the problem, but there you are.

Thanks for all your help.

spyware/adware probably did that without your knowledge.... makes it so that you \"HAVE\" to search with the search engine specified in the spy/ad app.
