Not to make light of that tragic incident but I had the distinct sense I was reading something involving Resident Evil and was just waiting for a photo of some zombies to be strolling down the streets :/
Definitely not a place I'd like to explore but also another deafening testament to the dangerous powers mankind wields. A fitting reminder of why it is so important to be responsible with those powers.

ah, the first time i tried to read it i kept getting connection errors. you guys never heard about that small town in (missouri?) i forget where, that in the 70s they hired a guy to spread oil on the roads to keep the dust down, and he sprayed sludge instead? whole town was contaminated with dioxin, and in the 80s they evacuated. thats what i thought this might be about, but i couldnt read it the first time i tried, firefox kept giving me connection errors.
i just read through it, makes ya think about some things.

Pretty spooky indeed, about woods glowing in the dark from all the radiation.
My dad had to make an exam about what happens when you take so much radiation in a certain period of time, and how to treat it. I went through the course yesterday and it's really crazy.
If you're exposed to a high dose in a short amount of time, your tissues melt, especially your intestins, lungs and your brains. You literally crap your guts out and die from a hematome. It takes very little radiation to lower fertility, and only a little more to be completely sterile. If you get exposed locally, your skin will show irritation for two to three weeks, if you're exposed a little more, your hair falls out and will never grow back.
Scary stuff...

The sarcophagus that encloses the wreck is falling apart, there are cracks and fissures everywhere with some openings so big you can drive a car through it.
I read that they are going to build a second one that will cover the current sarcophagus, and it will be so big it can enclsoe the statue of Liberty.
This is just a dinky photo, I had a better illustration that illudes me.

And, interestingly enough, we will soon be able to explore the zone and the sarcophagus in the upcomming PC game Stalker with as much accuracy as possible so they say.
I also had a erie video of inside the sarcophagus but I seem to have lost it as well. You can see the sunlight peering into the "tomb".
Edit: Here it is:
