Firsttime user of D2X-XL setup question

Sorry for the noob question, but what files from the original Descent 2 game should to be copied over into the new D2XXL directory? I'd like to copy only the required files for a clean setup.

I know the instructions from the website said to copy the new unpacked files into the original Descent 2 directory, but there seem to be a lot of unneeded files within the old game compared to the files D2X uses. Thanks.

Um... I really haven't tried something like that myself, but you could always copy files until it stops complaining about something missing I guess.

Stuff I know you'll need:
descent2.ham
descent2.hog
descent2.s11
descent2.s22
groupa.pig
water.pig
fire.pig
ice.pig
alien1.pig
alien2.pig
All .mvl files, if you have movies installed

There is only a few files you don't really need.
Though I haven't deleted them because they don't hurt D2X-XL.

Anyways.
We have some Installation Guides if you wish to look them over at the Descent2.de forum.

As Sirius said, it think those are the Really needed files.
And about the extra files i'm not completely sure, but as far as i know all .386 files, ERegcard (this is only an old Interplay registering utility) files and the Setup.exe aren't needded at all by D2X-XL.

However, i think Descent.cfg IS needed for D2X-XL.

Follow exactly the file and folder structure as laid out in the installation guide and be happy.

I have the MS-DOS version 1.1 of Descent 2 presently installed. Should I update this version with the 1.2 patch from Planet Descent or just install a clean copy of Descent 2 Win 95, The Infinite Abyss, from my disk, which I think is version 1.2?

The Win 95 version contains a lot more files than the MS-DOS version, some of which I assume may be needed for D2X-XL?

You need D2 v1.2 to work with D2X-XL.

You can patch it if you want, but The Infinite Abyss already is version 1.2.
