Looking for a cool clan name
Hey, all. I'm getting a Descent 3 clan up and running with all of my buddies, and we need a cool name. I'm not good at coming up with cool names myself, but I thought up a few:
Lusankya
Xanthos
Terran Descentia
GeForce
Feel free to provide input!

Mega Crap.
You would be better off copying some 4chan meme than any of those. Pick an acronym you like and then make something up that fits it, works better at finding a name than almost anything else.
And regardless of how "cool" sounding you try to make it, nobody is going to be fooled, they will still think you are a bunch of nerds.
With that in mind, I would suggest the name: Nerds. I mean comeon... [Nerds]Red_5... that sounds awesome!!!

Obvious then: E=mc²Red_5 wrote:Yeah. I know. I can't come up with a cool name to save my life. Although I want the clan name to fit my avatar... we're using the radioactive orb logo on our D3 ships.
But they will still think you are nerds... (actually that might make it even worse)

Don't try to make your team's tag "cool", it just needs to represent you and your group. Team coolness is derived from the quality of its people, not how their tag looks. (Just look at the ^BoTS^, weird tag but awesome guys.)

The thing that seems odd to me is:
Why are you asking here?
Your team is it's members... ask them.
...and if you're trying to recruit by 'having a cool tag', you're going about it the wrong way. Get to know people, play together. Then when you're a group, find a name, and recruit people based on their character, not their skills or your 'cool tag'.
Talk to some players, find out what makes the longest-lasting teams, and why those groups of people stick together. 'Clans' come and go, fame and multiplayer fortunes come and go... don't be one of those \"I'm gonna make the 133t-est clan ever!\" groups... if you're gonna be a team, let it mean something more.
That's why I'm a part of my team, [RIP]. They're a group of people from all over the world, of all walks of life, with lots of different skill levels and experience, they've been around nearly 10 years, and over the last couple of years, I've come to know many of them quite well. I don't wear my tag for ego or to flaunt my team; I wear it because it represents the group of people I know and consider friends.
P.S. This is not a team-touting post. There are some really respectable teams of Descent players out there, and I completely respect those guys/girls. What I'm saying is that the 'clans' who died (and there are probably a couple hundred at least) are the ones who were made solely for glory and fame, not for comraderie and the enjoyment of the game. If Red_5's group is to succeed, they have to be one of the latter.

Expanding a bit on what Foil said... As a general rule of thumb, I never expected much from anyone wearing a \"cool\" sounding alias or clan tag in multiplayer games. Usually the cooler the alias sounded, the more pathetic the player was. People like that are usually more concerned with appearances than actually making anything of their skills. Few of them ever stuck around in a game with me for any length of time.
Through the years I was playing D3 online I saw perhaps hundreds of teams come and go, pretty much without exception the ones that tried the hardest to push an elite appearance with their tags, names, and aliases ended up failing miserably. (Not to mention generally looking like a bunch of immature and idiotic brats.)
The team that I was in for many years before we finally retired was one of a few that had no real name. \"D3k\" was just a tag to identify the team for convenience. Which is why it is best to keep in mind that the team makes the tag, not the other way around. Just pick something everyone can agree on that can uniquely identify your team and call it good.

If your group eventually becomes a respected team, it won't matter what your tag looks like.
(So feel free to go with something crazy.)

I argee, although your clan name has to be somewhat "cool." No one will join your clan if the name is "Strawberry Shortcakes Anonymous."Foil wrote:Exactly!Krom wrote:...keep in mind that the team makes the tag, not the other way around.

As long as the members were mature and interesting, I wouldn't let that stop me.Red_5 wrote:No one will join your clan if the name is "Strawberry Shortcakes Anonymous."

No No No! Whatever you do, do not go for an Apple product-naming trend, especially for a word that's so common, like Clan, and especially when it really wouldn't have anything to do with Apple in the first place!Red_5 wrote:iClan
And {U} is just as bad (well, not quite). I don't even know how to pronounce that.
Look, what you want in a clan is to be able to be recognised as one solitary group, all out to protect each other and follow each other's lead. The purpose of a clan is not to have the best public appearance as you can! Just go for a simple name that describes your interests best.

oooh, come on! the iClan idea would be SOOOO cheesy! As for {U}Clan, all of my buddies said \"Yes, do {U}Clan. It's sounds good.\"
Plus, it kind of fits our clan members' ship logos, which is the nifty radioactive orb that I have for my avatar.
And I won't even get into the part where we start dominating.
