Interplay says it will develop new Descent
Among the projects Interplay has said it wants to develop are sequels to Earthworm Jim, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Descent, and MDK, provided it can find the financing.

More false hope?
Yesterday I was looking at some Red Faction stuff and there were rumors about Red Faction 3 comming out in 2009, I was hoping they would do a D4 as well especially since Red Faction was originally slated to be D4.

I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on disk somewhere.
Re:
Volition is owned by THQ, and at last check still had a decent slice of the original Descent team still working there. While it would have been a completely impossibility a few years ago, Interplay might be desparate enough to license the IP to THQ.ccb056 wrote:Yesterday I was looking at some Red Faction stuff and there were rumors about Red Faction 3 comming out in 2009, I was hoping they would do a D4 as well especially since Red Faction was originally slated to be D4.

if there is a piece of the monetary pie for everyone, then rights will be waved...
Interesting though, that interplay still recognizes Descent as a viable project for expansion/sequals.
I'd be happy with a decent flight game (props not jets)at this point. how about a sequal to Red Baron 3D?
heh.

Fighting villains is what I do!
Re:
Well, that's true if Interplay wanted to develop it in-house, or have someone else develop it. But since Interplay is starving for cash to fund the development of its planned MMO, I wouldn't be surprised if they're not considering licensing the Descent IP to another publisher. That publisher could then buy out the rights from Parallax. Since Mike Kulas now works for THQ as head of Volition, it might be possible for the parties to come to an agreement.Krom wrote:Don't any of you remember how this all works? Even Interplay can't make a new Descent sequel without Parallax Software waving their rights to make it first, and the odds of that happening are precisely: zero.
But you're right, that's why nobody has ever been legally able to develop a Descent 4.

Esp. since they let their Descent (tm) expire in '02..ReadyMan wrote:Interesting though, that interplay still recognizes Descent as a viable project for expansion/sequals.

Well hopefully they can hold on long enough that they can do this again. My guess is about 2009 they will get back on their feet entirely. But good old interplay. Ahh the descent memories. I remember back in about '97 i first played descent on my playstation. i am 16 currently so i must of played it when i was about 6 years old. Woo for me!!!

Oops. My bad. Turns out that the EWJ game I was thinking of was for the PSP, and is now cancelled anyway.
Keyword: 'may'. The chances of a D4 are still very small.Red_5 wrote:>Giddy with excitement< If what I've gathered is correct, we may see the release of Descent IV?

Clicked on \"Self Support\" for Descent 3 just for grins:

I'd be very surprised to see Interplay ever make any games again.

There's actually a pretty good chance of that happening, really.TigerRaptorFX wrote:This community where everyone respects the rules and everyone is nice to one another.
If course, it would depend entirely on the forum being completely deserted.
Re:
I think any descent from here on would have it's flight controls extreamly watered down. So that to you or me, (probably just you as I havn't played since the last Califest), it wouldn't feel like the same game.d3jake wrote:Think of the crop of newbies that would be flooding in.... Name a modern game where it takes someone a month+ just to adiquitly control it? That crucial month where people tell their friends that they need to go buy this game.
What we love about Descent, is what makes its sales suck.

Right... so your definition of a good game is one that takes over a month just to get used to how to play?Gooberman wrote:Name a modern game where it takes someone a month+ just to adiquitly control it? That crucial month where people tell their friends that they need to go buy this game.

Don't worry Goober, the men in white coats are coming to take you away now...
