Twister Tube is Here!!!
Hey all!
For the last 2 years, my wife and I have been hard at work creating, designing, and building Twister Tube.
The idea came to us in March of 2006 for a desktop size water vortex lamp that looked like a Tornado and has full color LED's and many different unique color changing modes.
I knew electronics and have taken college level courses in chemistry, and physics but nothing could have prepared us for the adventure that awaited. We decided on manufacturing here in the US instead of simply selling the idea to some large corporation.
We started by getting loans from the bank, and proceeded to learn how to get each component needed. Soon, we were dealing with injection molders, manufactures, lawyers, and chemists from around the globe.
So, after nearly $100K and almost 2 years of effort, we are both happy to announce that Twister Tube is ready for everyone to enjoy and I wanted all of you to see what we've been up to.

p.s. Thanks to VonRC, VonVulcan, Duper, Ventman, MD-2389, and all the rest who've had to listen to me talk about this for the last 2 years over teamspeak. Special thanks to VonRC for being a most excellent webhost and to VonVulcan for being the first to purchase a unit.

Yo,
Heh, I love it…that’s exactly the type of stuff I have been building and collecting most of my adult life. It all started with my mom’s Lava Lamp…then the “Wave”...and so on.
I started a small company about 25 years ago called “Photomotion” doing custom one of a kind lighted projects, but Liability and Cost issues pretty much quashed the project.
I’m seriously considering buying one…but that buck fifty price tag is a little sheep…err steep for a mass produced novelty lamp.
You say you’re making it here in the USA…that will go a long way toward making my decision. A longer warranty would help too.
Convince me.
Anyway I wish you the best of Luck with your endeavor.

Thanks guys!
One of the reasons Twiser Tube costs what it does is that we are currently running very low volume quantities and the material costs are high. This is not a cheap plastic toy, but a high quality collectors item that will last for years.
We are aware of the competition...
http://shopping.discovery.com/product-6 ... 600652-0-0
However, our unit is significantly different on many levels...
Ours looks like a tornado. This is due to the Twister Solution which itself took the almost a full year and a half to develop.
Ours is made from impact resistant and polished ABS plastic with a custom manufactured pyrex glass tube.
Ours is quiet. You can have this unit right next to you on not hear it.
Quality parts. 1/8\" plastic in most places, and the glass is also nearly 1/8\" thick. This is built to last.
Color changing modes that were programmed to actually look like something. Not just a simple red-green-blue change. One mode which seems to be everyones favorite is Lightning. It was programmed to mimic a lightning storm with random flash intervals, random flash duration, random number of flashes. Run this in a dark room and you will swear theres a real thunderstorm outside.
We have made the first 500 units \"Limited Signed Gold Editions\". One reason is that we know $150 would seem pricey and we wanted to give a little extra to those that got in now while we are still low volume.
Hopefully, if everything goes as planned, we will get some investors and go mass production, and full distribution. At least, that is our goal.

Re:
I kinda thought the same thing at first until I saw what he put into this thing. The reason the prices is what it is, is because he didn't skimp on the hardware. This is not something that you'd find for twenty bucks at wal-mart.Lothar wrote:Price tag is a bit steep, but it's a seriously cool lookin' piece of hardware.
What! I can't put fish in this thing...well I guess I’ll have to send it back then.
Well I like it, it’s just as advertised.
Some suggestions for your next production run…
1. Nix that last “Dynamic” mode.
2. One more solid color mode…”Cyan”
3. Change that last mode to a slowly changing solid color mode using all the colors.
4. A remote
5. A cover for those thumb screws
6. A recharge kit (spills, moving etc)
Spidey out…

Glad you like it, let me answer some of your comments...
1. A lot of people like that mode. It's like the party mode!
2. Had Cyan originally in this one, but nixed it because it looked too much like blue.
3. Rainbow mode goes through all the colors of the rainbow, and mystical mode changes through random colors. You want another mode like this or change one of these?
4. Agreed. Would have been in this one but the price would have been even steeper. I do have plans for version 2 that do include this though.
5. Thumbscrews are another thing to be changed. Version 2 will probably nix these as well.
6. The current solution doesn't allow for customer cleaning. We are looking at this for the future.
How did you like the packaging? Any other positives?
