I've heard some of you say that you reverse engineered AOL and seen that it does some bad stuff, and one of you said to me "don't ever put that on a computer." I think he was talking about the 9.0 optimized thing. What exactly is bad about AOL or that 9.0 optimized thing? It looks to me like it takes over your computer like a virus. =P But what exactly does it do to a computer?
It doesn't take reverse engineering to know that AOL is evil. It basically takes over your system by installing itself in every concievable place: Start menu, desktop, quick launch, file associations, network drivers... and "Optimized" is a joke. It's fancy for "we cache the webpages".
Just for the record I have had AOL 9.0 on my computer since it cames out and it has caused me no problems other than the crappy conection but you have to expect that from AOL.
Thankfully the 1.5 years free from the purchase of a gateway laptop ends the 11 of this month and I will have Verzion DSL starting Wed at 6:00pm. YAY
The only thing I ever found good about AOL is its e-mail control. I haven't used AOL in over 3 years nor do I ever plan to go back. They claim 9.0 blocks people from spying on you. But in reality the AOL Company is just as guilty.

I have competely removed it before when I tried deleteing some of the files and totaly killed it. But then I had to reinstall it now I don't. Just got the DSL up and running.

hmm I didn't even get one serious answer. =P
after it takes over, it replaces most of your common Icons with AOL "themed" icons, it screws up your browsers settings, patches in AOL proprietary autoexec.bat settings, aswell as windows settings.

Oh plus not to mention the parental ratings are crap.... "Mature Teen" rating doesn't let you on www.bash.org ! Also, in my experience, if a web address is given in as an image (ie omgomg.com/pics/wheeee.jpg) it won't let you go to it.
